HAL House Brand Wine?

Recommended Posts

From previous threads I have seen that the HAL house brand wine is Coastal Vintners from Australia. I would like to buy a bottle and try it before I sail, however I can't seem to find it. Does anyone know if it is a private label made for HAL only? Does anyone have a picture of the label?

Thanks,

MollyBax:)

I believe Coastal Vintner's to be a California low end wine. If you Google it you will find it available for less than $4/bottle. It sounds familiar and I think that was the red that was sent to us by a TA. It was horrible.

A better alternative with HAL is to bring your own wine onboard and pay the corkage fees if you consume in public areas. You can also pick up wine when in ports and bring it onboard.

Another option is to pre-order the Bon Voyage white wine (about $21) and get it really cold and it is ok. And, there are a number of Italian wines available in Canaletto for $22 that are good.

You can use the look-up tool at the link below to see where it may retail near you. Coastal Vintners is one of the many, many, many brands of Constellation Wines US, the wine and spirits conglomerate based out of Canandaigua, NY (of all places!). I think you will be much happier with your own preferred brand, which you can buy and bring on board. I can (and have!) drink pretty much anything, but I couldn't bring myself to finish a glass of this.

Enjoy ... ?? :D

I agree with gardydm about the Italian wines for $22/bottle in Canaletto. My traveling companion and I ordered Rose the evening we dined there and found the wine to be very, very drinkable. (We drank the whole bottle!) My Wine Steward in the dining room told me about them when he learned we were going to be dining in Canaletto the next night. He said they were very good and he was right!

Interestingly, I thought, the Canaletto Wine Steward offered us the regular wine list when we were seated and I had to ask him about the "Canaletto" wines. They were on a separate list.

I am interested in knowing if the listing of the wines are those that are available for purchase each evening from the wine list --or are they some of those that are included in the various wine packages? We have bought the wine packages on other cruises, and sometimes were not impressed with the wines offered--althought we "managed" to drink them. We are white wine drinkers, so I was interested in that list. We will be cruising soon, and I have made a note about the Canneleto wines and to ask for that particular wine list. Ciao!!hmh:)

hmh,

Not sure if I understand your question. I think that the wines in the packages are also available individually on the main wine list. We purchased the 5 bottle Navigator's Choice package and enjoyed all of the ones we ordered. We did get to taste a couple of other wines from that package at a wine tasting. With the exception of a Frescobaldi Red, which I thought tasted "thin", the others were OK.

But, as you know, people's tastes do differ.

I ordered the Admirals package last time I was onboard. There is an Admiral's wine tasting that features the wines in this package, so wait until after the tasting to pick out the bottles you want. You can pick them one at a time throughout the trip, so you don't have to choose when you book the package. I ended up drinking Tintarra the entire trip, as I really wasn't crazy about the other wines in the tasting. I did have a couple glasses of the house wine as it is the free pour at receptions and hosted tables; I thought it was drinkable but frankly not very good.
