Johnthed0g Posted February 13, 2010 #26 Share Posted February 13, 2010 This is another one for the differences thread! in the UK a purse is something women keep money in (some men too!) The item you refer to is to us a handbag.
cv322 Posted February 13, 2010 #27 Share Posted February 13, 2010 I have a couple very small purses with very long shoulder straps that I put across my body so it's almost like they aren't there, have chapstick, S&S, cheater readers, sunglasses, small camera, not much else. I use those in ports too, no fanny packs for me, they're targets in ports. I do exactly the same thing with a couple of same-style purses.
Bamagal in FL Posted February 14, 2010 #28 Share Posted February 14, 2010 No purse on vacation!!;) I use something like this: It will clip inside my waistband for security and works great for my S&S card if I don't have pockets especially while onboard. Onshore I slide in my CC and a little cash but do use a "money pouch" or a "sling" type backpack for other items. ***tried to get pic a little smaller but couldn't****
Happy ks Posted February 14, 2010 #29 Share Posted February 14, 2010 Yes! Badebox=bath box. We first bought them years ago while living in Germany. They were great for keeping the odd key and bit of cash dry and you can either wear it around your neck or attach it to a belt loop or bathing suit strap and tuck the case in some place inconspicuous. I carry my seapass in a thin one and when off the ship I just add a bit of cash and my credit card. My lipstick just gets tossed in my pocket (always seem to have one in my shorts) and I'm good to go. My sunglasses are on my face or head. I hate carrying anything in my hands if I don't have to. http://www.amazon.com/Cruise-Travel-Waterproof-Credit-Lanyard/dp/B001DKAX2G/ref=pd_sbs_a_7 Thanks, I have never known that name for them before. I have one of those, somewhere around here, purchased for snorkeling.

Sounds like what I carry - big enough for my camera, etc. I also usually have a mini sun block so we don't have to go back to the cabin in case we need to re-apply. buckirj1 Posted February 14, 2010 #33 Share Posted February 14, 2010 On board, no. I wear a small lanyard for the seapass, wear sunglasses, reading glasses hook onto the lanyard. I figure I can run back to the cabin for anything else (and there's usually nothing else I need). On shore, yes. A small one.
Princess32 Posted February 14, 2010 Author #34 Share Posted February 14, 2010 well, really the only reason i would carry one would be to carry my lipgloss, hairbrush, camera, wallet i guess with id?, lotion, sunglasses, magazine or book. but ive decided im gonna take a purse, evening clutch (for dinner), and my normal beach bag for when im out at the pool and stuff :)
Houndmom Posted February 14, 2010 #35 Share Posted February 14, 2010 It isn't weird, but you won't need it much. I bring a little evening purse to dinner with tissues, lipstick, perfume, reading glasses, and such little necessities. I have a small cross-shoulder bag for shore excursions, and a beach bag with zipper pocket to carry our towels and snorkeling equipment. When we snorkel and swim, we have waterproof waist bags (very small, about 4 x 4" and flat - you can get them at dive shops) for cash, IDs, and our seapass cards. You will see other ladies with purses, but may choose to abandon yours. :)
eden910 Posted February 15, 2010 #36 Share Posted February 15, 2010 is it weird to carry a purse on board? im going on my first cruise in June and was just wondering. thank u! I usually carry a small purse because there are things I need to have with me that I can't fit in my pockets comfortably (inhaler, camera, eyeglasses, etc.) I've only been on a couple of cruises but I've never felt uncomfortable carrying a purse. So I guess it depends on what you need to have with you.
JAMS1 Posted February 15, 2010 #37 Share Posted February 15, 2010 a Lanyard is a wonderful thing for your cruise card. If you get a coffee card make sure to reinforce the hole so it does not rip off the lanyard. Have to take clothes with pockets or a small purse to carry my Inhaler, otherwise I don't need a purse on board, but do need one when going ashore to carry sunglasses, camera, sunscreen etc... Have a wonderful cruise! & welcome to Cruise Critic!

GlendaleCruiser Posted February 15, 2010 #39 Share Posted February 15, 2010 I don't carry around 'just in case' items. I don't either. I apply lipstick in when I return to the cabin, never have felt the need to carry tissues just in case, my sunglasses are on my head and my S&S in my pocket. okgirl Posted February 15, 2010 #40 Share Posted February 15, 2010 I carry a really cute Vera Bradley shoulder bag that I wear diagonally across my body. This leaves my hands free, plus it's large enough to carry my book, sunglasses, lip balm, suntain lotion. I also carry a small wallet with my casino cash and my drivers lisence. I very pleasantly found out that if you win a single spin jackpot over $1999 on a slot machine you have to prove your identity and fill out a 1099-G before you get your winnings. Grumpy100 Posted February 15, 2010 #42 Share Posted February 15, 2010 We have been on many cruises. Back in the day before they had safe's in all the cabins I would carry my purse with me because I worried about theft. But now since all the staterooms have safe's I usually don't carry my purse. If we go to the pool I will carry a beach bag and put the towel, s&s card, sun tan lotion, etc. If we go on an excursion I always carry a purse because I use a crossbody purse, feel safer about theft, using this kind of purse and put camera and everything in that especially the hand santizer. On formal night I carry a small clutch I think it looks nice. Normal everyday use just put everything of value in the safe and just carry your sign and sail card. CanWeGoYet? Posted February 16, 2010 #44 Share Posted February 16, 2010 I got a medium sized coach wristlet to use on my cruises. Not the very smallest size - this one will hold my cruise card, lipstick, cell phone, camera etc. I could use it at home, but never seem to. I got a bright color, pink patent. It's my cruise purse, makes me happy just to look at it!

rjm1cc Posted February 16, 2010 #46 Share Posted February 16, 2010 Do you carry it arround your house? If you do not skip it on the ship. You just need your room key.
CanWeGoYet? Posted February 16, 2010 #47 Share Posted February 16, 2010 My house is a little smaller than the ship. :D I need to have my stuff with me, asthma inhaler, cell, etc. Father in poor health, I'm the one responsible for him, so have to be reachable. cruiserbryce Posted February 16, 2010 #48 Share Posted February 16, 2010 my wife did for a while but doesnt anymore...it just isnt a necessity and ends up being one more thing to worry about. While on board you only need a sea pass card and when ashore a small wallet or space in a camera bag for a couple items is enough
KAYEF Posted February 16, 2010 #49 Share Posted February 16, 2010 Maybe your Mother doesn't understand that she will need NO money on the ship; a purse is more to keep track of...........she really won't need it. Also assure her that when she leaves it in the cabin you will put her wallet into the safe.;)
glasschicken Posted February 16, 2010 #50 Share Posted February 16, 2010 I usually can fit everything I need in my bra! I don't usually wear clothes with pockets so it's really the only option. Some lip gloss and my card and I'm good to go! The camera can get a little tricky, though... ;)
