oldguysandgalls Posted February 25, 2010 #326 Share Posted February 25, 2010 A very disturbing trend is developing in our world again in what is tolerated, acceptable, legal, and I believe we are threading on dangerous grounds if we "go after" certain groups. Is history about to repeat itself? Here it is: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/First_they_came... "First they came ..." is a popular poem attributed to Pastor Martin Niemöller (1892–1984) about the inactivity of (edited out) intellectuals following the ( edited out ) rise to power and the purging of their chosen targets, group after group. In Niemöller's first utterance of it, in a January 6, 1946. First they came for the communists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a communist; Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a trade unionist; Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew; Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak out for me. oldguysandgalls Posted February 25, 2010 #330 Share Posted February 25, 2010 My point is simple. Don't put your nose in my business and I will stay out of yours. I am considerate where I smoke for example, because I believe in tolerance and respect for others and I do not impose my will on others who do not share in my pleasure of smoking. It's called mutual respect, tolerance and understanding, and yes Captain Jake, I can equate that what happened in the 1930's/1940's because....I lived through it. If you really wanted to save lives, then STOP the insane, unjustified, by lies promoted war in Iraq. So don't talk to me with that "oh we care for you, we want you to live" but only if you abey OUR rules. Not this time Captain Jake, not this time old chap. :D:D:D:D so whats your point? You cannot equate this to 1930's fascist. In fact its the opposite. We are saving lives not taking them :cj

oldguysandgalls Posted February 25, 2010 #338 Share Posted February 25, 2010 It's not just about smoking and if you had lived during the 30's / 40's like I did you too would see the dangerous path we are on. You can BAN all you want and ultimately, watch my words, it will also affect something YOU enjoy doing. Just keep that in mind. quote=DC2OC;23311137]I find it mind boggfling that someone who equate smoking restrictions to 1930 Germany.Reminds me of the person who said they were starting a group called DAMM-Drunks Against Madd Mothers
S10Catman Posted February 25, 2010 #339 Share Posted February 25, 2010 Wow, you don't really believe all that stuff? If smoking is so good for you why not let your kids smoke too. Start them young, that's what I say. Because wisea** both my children are dead. One from a brain tumor (genetics) and the other due to a firearms issue. Before you start attacking my children pull your head out of your keister and stop drinking the Kool-aid. Yes I firmly believe the UN should be shut down, send all the jerks to their home country, cut off all their foriegn aid, and leave the US alone. We were founded on the principles of a republic not a freaking democracy! They are nothing more than a bunch of socialists that one to create a one government world. Why would five of the vetoing countries happen to be either socialist democracies or communists?

oldguysandgalls Posted February 25, 2010 #341 Share Posted February 25, 2010 I respectfully disagree with you Captain Jake. A) Yes, we show respect by smoking in designated areas B) No, we DO NOT impose our will on others C) Yes, people like YOU impose YOUR will on US D) Yes, we care about your health, we have designated smoking areas. Got to go, it's my smoke break...on my patio. This starts to become the beginning of Fascism/communision/socialism. First make all guns illegal, make certain religions illegal, make everybody buy this (health care), make what you eat or do in life illegall, it is the beginning of a very slippery slope.:)

Where, I'll need that to cure my massive hangover from all the DODs. Those are for anybody that needs O2 therapy not just smokers, There are asthmatics and plenty of folks with lung disorders totally unrelated to smoking.:)

SargassoPirate Posted February 25, 2010 #346 Share Posted February 25, 2010 I saw a first started outside a Hospital ER when someone tossed their cigarette into the mulch. Here's my comment to those who compare other vices (drinking, gambling, overeating, etc) to smoking: when someone forces me to eat, drink or gamble I will complain about that also. Smoking around anyone FORCES those people to breath in that smoke (including outside areas). NO ONE should be FORCED to breath in cigarette smoke. Until they figure out how to replace the revenue lost from banning cigarettes (you can't tell me there is a good use for tobacco) this will be an ongoing argument. It is NOT about a person's rights. It's about money. Well said. I think anyone should have the right to smoke if they want, as long as they don't exhale anywhere indoors or upwind from me. Their right to smoke does not preempt my right to breathe smoke free air and to wear clothes that don't reek of old tobacco fumes.
