WHAT A STUPID QUESTION NON SMOKING SHIPS GOOD LUCK WHAT A SAD BORING CRUISE THAT WOULD BE  I THINK THERE SHOULD BE A NON SMOKING LIFEBOAT SO WE COULD LAUNCH THE ANTI SMOKING BRIGADE IN THE MID ATLANTIC:rolleyes:

Without smoking the cruise would be boring? Yeah, every cruise I have been on, I always get home and think how much better the cruise was with all those smokers! (sarcasm)

What is with all the no votes from non-smokers? Are you thinking that if they ban smoking, it will lead to other things being banned? If you don't smoke, why would you want all that nasty smoke residue all over your clothes and such (let alone the ship carpet, furniture, etc.)

If they could invent some sort of smoking helmet or suit, where the smoke STAYED only with the person smoking, that would be fine, but until then, smoking is a nasty habit that infringes upon others. Forget the second hand smoke health issues, it's just the nasty smell that gets in your clothes and hair. I don't take my glass of wine an sprinkle drops of wine on fellow passengers as I enjoy my wine (or beer, or whatever), yet someone who smokes is basically putting the smoke all over my clothes, skin, furniture on the ship, carpet, etc. I just don't understand why people accept it so much (especially non smokers). I am fine if you want to smoke, just do it outdoors away from other people. It is a fairly unique problem that people tend to lump together with other such things like crying babies, alcohol, etc. Smoking is not like those other things. After you leave dinner and had to listen to a crying baby for a few minutes during dinner, you don't go back to your cabin and continually "hear" the crying from your clothes, skin and hair. When I go back to the cabin, my clothes smell for quite awhile. And if I don't shower right away, I'll be smelling it in my hair and skin for quite awhile. Sure you have the occasional heavy perfume wearer, but they should ban that sort of behavior too, or give designated perfume wearing areas outside of the ship.

One vote for more smoke !!! Another vote for cigar/pipe night in the casino. They should also have a special lounge for kids under the age of 12 who want to light up behind their parents back.

LOL.....:)

Just reminded me of this woman at the purser's desk on Freedom of the Seas a few months ago. She was like a bull in a china closet complaining "that every time she went back to her cabin she could smell cig. smoke in the bathroom and that she had just left there and the smell was there again...... Gentleman at the desk...being so, so nice to her, said he would send someone from maintenance dept. to check it out.....she yelled "Not now, my 15 year old son is in there sleeping".....

Ditto many times over! Once it attaches to something, that nasty smell is next to impossible to get rid of.

WOW! I am the originator of this thread and cannot believe the number of responses in just a few hours.

First I will apologize for not posting a poll with this thread. I did not know that there was an option. I now see that it is listed below the "submit this thread" selection. Thanks to those that have pointed this out in a positive way.

I am also very surprised at some of the responses. I appreciate both sides of a story but some of these responses seem very angry. Surely there are better ways to give an opinion without getting personal.

My spouse is the reason that I would like to see a smoking ban. She has serious allergies and wheezes when around smoke. In the future we will be looking for non-smoking cruises. I hope others will join me in voicing their opinion in the poll.

They said that it was impossible for bars, restaurants and airlines to ban smoking. That it would ruin their business. That did not happen.

I will add a poll to the thread. A few of you have hinted that a third option would be nice so I will do this.

Personally, I would like to see smoke free ships, but I don't think the market would support it. Both Carnival and RCL are mainstream cruise lines, that tend to attract the demographic that is more likely to smoke.

It might work on a higher end cruise line, where the demographics skew differently, but as long as they are going after the bargain crowd, I think we're going to have to put up with smokers on board.[/quote]

They? We? Welcome aboard Bargainer! Is everything to your liking?

Hmmmmmm, the originator of this thread.......

There is a great thread on smoking/not smoking in Casinos going on. Great debate from both sides.

I am a firm believer that Royal Caribbean reads these threads.

Let us keep this simple. If you are for a total smoking ban vote: Yes

If you are not, vote: No.

No sitting on the fence with maybe. No additional comments. Save that for the other threads. No multiple votes.

I will NOT be keeping count. RCCL will have their staff doing the math.

I will not vote now but will sign on later so as not to lead the witness.

Get your vote out there.

Do you want a total ban on smoking?

YES or NO.

more people die from alcohol related accidents and alcohol realeted medical problems although it may be a toss up. Should they ban alcohol? They already tried that and it caused the worse crime levels in US history. Ban smoking. The Mafia needs a new way of making money.

I don't smoke and don't particularly like it but banning is just plain stupid. You know how much income the government will lose?

I am a non-smoker who does not feel there should be a total smoking ban. I believe that smokers should have a couple spots on the ship to smoke - a cruise ship is not like a hotel where someone can just wander away and find a place to smoke if the hotel bans smoking. I do think that cruise ships should have smoking policies where a non-smoker is able to easily avoid cigarette smoke and not have to miss out on any unique venues. I do not think smoking should be permitted in areas such as balconies, casinos, or most bars/lounges. I think there should be one indoor bar/lounge (that has a door so that the smoke mainly stays in the room) and a couple outdoor areas where smoking is allowed. Celebrity has a nice policy that comes close to this. Smokers have a couple of areas to hang out, but non-smokers can easily avoid them and are not missing out on anything.

I do agree with you on the first part of your post - it is just silly when people make comments such as a cruise would be boring without smokers. Insinuating that non-smokers are boring makes a non-smoker like me have to hold back from turning into a rabid anti-smoking type. :D

Am I reading this correctly? smokers are bargain crowd shoppers?

Honest mistake. I forgot that my significant other was already logged in under her user ID and email address. I have already been forgiven.

What is important is to vote on the poll. Things are really smokin'. So far the No's are slightly in front. Should go down to the wire. The post will be up for 7 days.

Our last four cruises were two on Azamara and two on the Constellation(Celebrity). They were great, it was a pleasure to use the Casinos and also walk thru on the way to the show rooms and not have to breath all that poison. On some of the ships in the past the smoke was so thick in the Casino, we would go up and down a flight to avoid the poison.

That's great. There are already options for those who don't want to be around smoke and those cruises are very nice. For those who want the option to be able to smoke, or to be able to cruise with someone who smokes, we should have options too.
