hutt90 Posted February 21, 2010 #1 Share Posted February 21, 2010 Here's a crazy question. Do the cruise ships have ATM machines on them? Planning on taking some cash but wondering how to get more if needed? Thanks for help:p
Gonzo70 Posted February 21, 2010 #2 Share Posted February 21, 2010 The ships i have been on have had ATMs, but there is usually a pretty hefty fee - about $6 surcharge (plus whatever your bank might charge you). Often it is cheaper to get your cash at the ship's casino rather than the ATM.
uppitycats Posted February 21, 2010 #3 Share Posted February 21, 2010 ..and generally when you get off in port there will be ATM's. We've found them everywhere..and relatively inexpensive. You can also cash checks at the purser's desk, on some cruise lines.
marco Posted February 21, 2010 #4 Share Posted February 21, 2010 As the poster above stated, ATM's are very convenient in ports but remember....they dispense local currency, not US dollars, so if you're in a port that US $$$$'s are not the currency, don't get more than you plan to spend that day in that country. As the first poster stated, if you need some US cash, get money on your card in the casino, there is no service charge. All of the on board ATMs I've seen charge a 6% fee. cb at sea Posted February 21, 2010 #5 Share Posted February 21, 2010 Cheaper to bring more cash than you think you'll need, and take some home at the end! The bank will accept your deposit!

navybankerteacher Posted February 21, 2010 #7 Share Posted February 21, 2010 If you are concerned about carrying too much cash, buy a few hundred $ worth of travelers checks. Purser will give US $ for them with no charge - much better than using shipboard ATM or credit/debit card cash advance. Also, AAA sells travelers checks at no fee - as do a few banks - check yours out.
