Carry on or check: soda and juice

I really want to bring soda and juice on board with us. Do we have to check it, or can we carry it on with us? I know it will be annoying to carry around the ship, but I was just wondering.

You can carry it if you wish.

If you check it, make sure its in a bag with a handle, just slapping a luggage tag on it, the porters some times refuse it.

We were just on the Carnival Dream (Port Canaveral) on 2/6. I had read over and over that you can take on a couple 12 packs of pop or water. I still felt that i was doing something wrong. I took my beach bag and put a couple 12 packs in it (carried it on) and then put a bottle of whiskey in my checked bag. It was no problem at all. So much so that the people next to us had a big group of people ( i don't know how many) they had a luggage dollie ~ like in a hotel and they had it FILLED with water and juice. The people at the embarktion had them take each one off and put it through the scanner and then put it back on the luggage dollie. I couldn't believe how much they had and that they were able to take it on.

is it safer to carry it on or check it in? If you check it in, will anything get damaged if its a plastic bottle
