quivet c Posted February 25, 2010 #1 Share Posted February 25, 2010 Going on a cruise in March on the Solstice and want to pick up a couple bottles of wine to carry on the ship, are there any good wine shops near Port Everglades in Ft Lauderdale? Looking for somewhere that has a large selection of French, Italian and California wines at good prices.

Looking for somewhere that has a large selection of French, Italian and California wines at good prices. Total Wine is supposed to be huge; their inventory in the internet for this particular store in FLL is excellent; prices are equivalent to what we pay for in Chicago. We are planning on ordering our wine online and picking them up enroute to the ship. People have posted it's only about 5 minutes away by taxi from the port and easy to stop your cab to pick up/carry out.
Lsimon Posted February 25, 2010 #3 Share Posted February 25, 2010 One of the best wine stores I've ever been in for selection is called Total Wine - a chain in Florida and elsewhere. They have a store in a shopping center a few blocks west of the 17th Street port entrance. http://www.totalwine.com/StoreList.aspx?state=FL&store=

RodPat Posted February 25, 2010 #5 Share Posted February 25, 2010 Just remember Solstice leaves on a Sunday. You can only buy wine on Sunday after 12 noon. We once left to go to the ship at 11 am and found out the hard way that we would have to wait an hour before we could buy our wine. Pat
monorailmedic Posted February 25, 2010 #6 Share Posted February 25, 2010 The Sunday restriction depends on zoning. Most of Davie is like that (and the TW near the port is in Davie if I'm not mistaken). The good news is that if time runs short you can call around to a few nearby that arent as restrictive. As a general rule, Dade County has very little restriction. A few Indian reservations in the area sell 23 hrs a day and such. What airport are you flying into? Longboysfan Posted February 25, 2010 #7 Share Posted February 25, 2010 Yes. We used Total wine - they are on 17th Street near the port.

Lsimon Posted February 25, 2010 #9 Share Posted February 25, 2010 doesnt the publix sell wine also...its on 17th in the shopping center by Embassy Suites I believe that Total Wine is actually in the same shopping center. I don't know how they compare in prices but I do know that Total Wine has a much larger selection of wines and there prices seemed good when we shopped there last March. quivet c Posted February 25, 2010 Author #10 Share Posted February 25, 2010 Thanks for the information on the Sunday restrictions but that should not be an issue as we get in on Saturday and we will pick our wine-up then. Sounds like Total Wine is the place to go.
BizDoc Posted February 25, 2010 #11 Share Posted February 25, 2010 Publix has an aisle of wine, Total Wine is an entire store, so selection at TW is far superior. Publix' prices seem to be on the high side, also....
cruising annie Posted February 26, 2010 #12 Share Posted February 26, 2010 Total Wine is in the same shopping center as publix. It is on 17 st causeway very close to port. There is a Public, a hallmark store, payless shoes, sprint store and other stores as well. There is also a liquor store on the same street across the blvd. Just an idea you may call them, maybe if you prepay the wine you are only picking up on Sunday and not buying. If you are walking it is tucked away in the back. It is in the back of Carlos N pepe. Enjoy your cruise. Annie
drakes2 Posted February 26, 2010 #13 Share Posted February 26, 2010 We are staying at the Renaissance 17th street and are planning on going to Total Wine, then a quick stop at Publix for a few items. Does anyone know how long it would take to walk back to the Ren. or should we take a taxi? Probably be loaded up with stuff for our cruise the next day. :) Total Wine is in the same shopping center as publix. It is on 17 st causeway very close to port. Doable, depending on how much stuff you have. You could always walk over and call a cab to drive you back or ask if the hotel shuttle could pick you up. When we went were on a b2b back cruise we used a rented a car pre-cruise and had a cab take us, and wait, on the mid-trip turn around.
princesspie Posted February 26, 2010 #15 Share Posted February 26, 2010 I work in Ft. Lauderdale and shop that Total Wine, great store and good prices. Your hotel is very close by, only a few blocks and walking would be a treat, especially with our March weather. Enjoy. BTW, was on the Equinox in December - wonderful ship!
