Always make sure you have closed it and that it is locked.:D

rpach10115 Posted March 6, 2010 #6 Share Posted March 6, 2010 ok thanks I thats would be a major thing forgetting to close it You have no idea how many people leave the safes open accidently. It happens all the time. When anyone complains about a theft from their safe (The extremly rare occasion), it is usually that they left it open. You must program your own code to open it. So as long as you close your safe, and don't tell anyone your code, you should be fine.
jagsfan Posted March 6, 2010 #7 Share Posted March 6, 2010 because the safe can be opened in case of problems......mechanical or otherwise, I wouldn't put valuable jewelry in any cruise ship safe. I have costume jewelry that goes with me when I travel. I've never had anything missing, but don't risk anything I can't afford to lose. As far as cash, can't you still cash traveler's checks at the purser's desk? Or do they charge a fee now? Haven't done it in a long time as I use credit cards as much as possible. Capitol One to avoid the fee the other companies charge.
ckr31 Posted March 6, 2010 Author #8 Share Posted March 6, 2010 lots of good feedback.I have not heard of anyone using travelers checks in like years matter of fact I can't remember when the last time I'v seen a advertisment or a commercial for them,so I can't comment on that.Guess I will go ahead and use the room safe since I don't like to carry lots of cash with me,besides a couple hundred on excursion days.THANKS! Putterdude Posted March 7, 2010 #11 Share Posted March 7, 2010 About a year ago or so someone posted that they had had a problem but I rather suspect it was a hoax; we certainly have not had a problem. However on the morning of disembarkation slide you fingers under the bottom inside lip of the safe....I am quite certain that we left one of DW's diamond studs under one a few years ago.
AndyTheK Posted March 7, 2010 #12 Share Posted March 7, 2010 Never had a problem with in safes in a cruise ship cabin or hotel room. My only "thing" is that notebook computers don't fit in.
Rare Shelly97060 Posted March 8, 2010 #13 Share Posted March 8, 2010 never had a problem with the safe. We put wallets, cash, passports, phones and jewelry in there upon arrival.
Whoo Posted March 8, 2010 #14 Share Posted March 8, 2010 We always put our wallets, cash, passports, jewelry in the safe. As someone else said - do check under the little mat in the safe when you leave - one of my earrings got shoved under there, and fortunately I found it! That's also a good place for a stray casino chip to find its way. We don't cash out when we leave every night, but take the chips with us for the next day. skellis Posted March 8, 2010 #16 Share Posted March 8, 2010 The only problem I ever had was when the battery died and we could not open the safe. They sent someone from security (an officer with a special key) who took several lengthy steps to open it, replace the battery and reset the lock after which we reset with a new code. We were impressed with the security and professionalism in dealing with our problem. After 29 princess cruises, I don't worry about anything except forgetting to close the door, forgetting to take out my stuff, or forgetting my code. I just found this info for our group about using travellers cheques on the ship I took this directly from the Princess website: We accept U.S., Canadian, British and Euro currencies, and traveler's checks. Express/Optima®, Diners Club/Carte Blanche®, Discover® Network, the JCB Card®, MasterCard® and Visa® are also accepted. Those paying by traveler's checks or cash will be required to leave a cash deposit with the Purser's staff at the beginning of the cruise. re the safe??? this will be our 3rd princess cruise and 2 others on other lines-- all safes work the same way and never had a problem...except what another person posted about the battery died but they quickly sent someone up to fix it------------
flamomo Posted March 8, 2010 #18 Share Posted March 8, 2010 Because of that lip just inside the door at the bottom of the safe, I put everything in a ziplock bag before placing my things in the safe. It also helps keep my belongings separate from my cabinmate's belongings.
