adelchamps Posted March 12, 2010 #2 Share Posted March 12, 2010 Hi, I would love to know this as well. Anything within 30 minutes of port would work. April
Rare crewsweeper Posted March 12, 2010 #3 Share Posted March 12, 2010 are there any resorts that offer day passes nearby? Sorry. No resorts near Belize City. There is an Old Belize/ Cucumber Beach area near by wher locals go on weekends. Not always open from what I hear. Ptherwise, you need to book an independent excursion to Bannister Island or take a water taxi to Caye Caulker or San Pedro to get to a beach. And even there it's not your resort type beaches like Cozumel or GC.
World Gallery Posted March 12, 2010 #4 Share Posted March 12, 2010 We have never been able to find one either and searched online a lot. We did do Bacab Gardens with the cruise ship last year and was disappointed in that tour. Wouldn't do it again. It wasn't a beach but rather a place with a decent pool, lunch and a butterfly garden. This year we are going to try Caye Caulker. We are a bit afraid of how it will all work with the water taxi but will to take the chance since it seems Belize doesn't have much else to offer (we have done cave tubing twice). gadaboutgal Posted March 13, 2010 #5 Share Posted March 13, 2010 We, too, got bored with the Belize offerings, enough to try Caulker Cay. I don't think Caulker Cay is what you are looking for. It is a long water ferry ride to the island. There are no "nice" beaches and no resorts. Not much there at all. I would guess that any guests staying on the island are there to dive. World Gallery Posted March 13, 2010 #6 Share Posted March 13, 2010 What did you do while there? We were planning to rent golf carts and ride around with our kids (ages 9 - 15). Just riding golf carts around an island will be fun for them. Also, we are looking to see where "real" people live, a little bit of culture. That is why we are thinking Caye Caulker over Bannister Island. We like quirky places. Also, we are going to go snorkel when we get there, but only for about an hour or so, just to Coral Gardens and the the Stingray area, which is only a mile from Caye Caulker. Any thoughts about how that all sounds since you have been there?
