Can someone convince my wife she should be looking forward to it also. This will be our first NCL cruise. Paul 26 days in a Penthouse suite?? Oh, wow!! How can she NOT be looking forward to such a life of luxury? We're booked for 33 days on the Sun 9/20-10/23 for 3 b2b2b cruises but we're in a porthole window cabin. I'd LOVE to be in any kind of suite, even just a balcony cabin. But I'm still looking forward to an awesome cruise with wonderful service. We were on the Sun a few years ago for an 18 day Panama Canal. I loved every minute of it.
numberguy Posted March 21, 2010 #31 Share Posted March 21, 2010 I agree, we've never booked this far in advance and it's killing me. Imagine booking the Sun 16 months out. We're going a Baltics cruise that departs on June 13, 2011. I'm going to be a madman by the time I get on the plane to Europe. I, too, am looking for info on the Sun. Going to start my search now. --Michael
versuco Posted March 21, 2010 #32 Share Posted March 21, 2010 Hi Gliles, I believe the Sky is as close as you get to a sister ship to the Sun. We sailed on her when she was Pride of Aloha and enjoyed it very much.

clarkg Posted March 22, 2010 #38 Share Posted March 22, 2010 Ok I guess I have to accept the fact that no one talks about The Sun :) but can anyone tell me if she has a sister ship that I can obsess on since I can't find much about The Sun? They are sister ships. I have been on both. The Sky was remodeled recently, since I sailed on her. When I sailed on the Sky it was the biggest ship I had been on. Ten cruises later I sailed on the Sun and it felt small. It's all perspective I guess.
bulgargirl Posted March 22, 2010 #39 Share Posted March 22, 2010 I thought the Star was the sister ship of the Sun??? Both were launched at the same time and it was the first time a cruiseline had launched two ships at once? I've been on the Sun and the Star and liked them both. The decor of the Sun is more restrained than on many of the other NCL ships. It's pretty, but not quite so bold and "out there". I like it both ways, so that pleases me. There is a cute little tapas place on the 11th (?) floor that has appetizers that are wonderful before dinner. The exact types change each day, but you can get little finger foods and listen to spanish music before or after dinner. I loved it. The lunch buffet is confusing to many people because parts of the buffet are in different "restaurant" areas. So you've got the main buffet in the garden cafe which is what you will recognize as the buffet. In the outdoor seating area behind the outdoor bar at the end of the ship is a little covered area that has various bbq/picnic type items (salads, burgers) inside the sports bar there are pizzas and (if I am remembering correctly, pasta???) and upstairs in the tapas places are little sandwiches (my personal favorite!). The gym is a little on the small side and was packed both times I was on a cruise on the sun, but that also could have been due to the relatively cool weather. I felt there were less deck chairs/loungers than on the Star, but there were plenty for a reposition cruise. I basically had the whole pool/deck area to myself and loved it! It's not my favorite ship, but that's not to say I didn't love every minute of it. Oh - and waking up in the middle of the night with a craving for strawberry shortcakes? No problem! Get it delivered right to your cabin. :)

LoisGriffin1 Posted March 22, 2010 #41 Share Posted March 22, 2010 The Sun is a great ship. I found it a little confusing to get around (like having to walk through the casino). I will be on her again next year for a Baltics cruise and cannot wait. I found the tapas place great and always quiet so was great for a relaxing lunch. We booked to go on the Jewel and then they changed ships on us a few months after booking! They also changed from going direct into Stockholm to going 1 hour away. However, all is fine and NCL did a good job in moving us to a similar type of room although it took awhile before they ever contacted me. I found out first here on CC. We are under 90 days roughly and getting excited.
