How much is the upfront charge for MTD?

Recommended Posts

I'm thinking of changing from 6 o'clock to MTD. How much is the prepaid tip charge? And is it just added to your total that has to be paid by the deadline, or does it have to be paid earlier? Thanks.

good question...I'm assuming you pay all gratuities beforehand...it's $68 something...either $68.25 or $68.75. I prepaid my gratuities. I don't think you can prepay the dining room and then pay on board for your cabin steward. I'm curious if I 'm wrong though

Hi Slyster,

We justed book a 12 night Southern Carib. on Explorer for 11-7-10 from Bayonne, NJ. Our agent added in the $9.75 p/p per day to the full amount. We don't have to pay it until our final payment in August. That fee covers the all wait staff, AS WELL as the Cabin Steward. No other tipped required unless you choose to do so for some extra or superior service.

It's cheaper than the $12.00 p/p per day we just did on NCL for 14 nights....Also, its paid before you even go, whereas on NCL they add the $24. (for both of us) every day on the sea pass.

I hope this clarifies it a little bit more.

Safe sails.

We are paying it with our final payment....It's nice because no extra charge to seapass card or extras on the credit card when we come back. There will be enough charges I'm sure...I also like that if you book excursions on line from RCCL, you pay in advance, so again, no massive charges..You can cancel 24 hours before the excursion, if necessary!

Do they still leave envelopes in your stateroom the night before you dis-embark to hand out to the staff with a ticket that states that you pre-paid?

They did when we sailed Oasis this past February.

They did on our 4/17 Oasis cruise. You just put the prepaid ticket in the envelope. We added a few more $$ for a great Waiter Staff (Sandeep and John) who we had every night even with My Time Dining!

The prepaid gratuities are the same amount as the standard recommendation by RCCL, the only difference is that you pay them with your booking, rather than in cash, or on your account on-board.

You can use the Cruise Tip Calculator to see exactly what they will be for your individual situation.

You just provide your cabin type (by choosing either "Royal Caribbean" or "Royal Caribbean Suite") and the number of people and number of nights you are sailing, and it calculates the total tips that will be added to your account.

It's kind of ironic, with the move away from cash and toward charging tips to the on-board account, the Tip Calculator's usefulness has waned, but with the new MTD and pre-paying of tips, it may see a new life as people want to know ahead of time now what they will be charged!

Hope that helps!
