Roatan, Mahogany Bay...sometimes skipped or delayed.

After cruising a couple of weeks ago and reading that

Princess was forced to skip Mahogany Bay and

Carnival was delayed leaving, I put an animated .gif

together using snapshots I took from our aft cabin

while the ship slowly backed into the narrow channel.

Thought someone might be interested to see this.

As a former dive boat captain I am amazed at the

maneuvering ability of these ships. It is easy to see

that bad weather can prohibit or delay a ship in these

narrow channels.

Thanks for the shots. I was in Roatan a couple of weeks ago and I was wondering what that light on the hill was for. It was very interesting to watch them back the Crown in. I wonder if Carnival Corp. is rethinking their decision to build Mahogany Bay in light of the winds and frequent rainy weather?

What a great description of getting into the port as well as maybe 3 other ships. High wind & waves makes for one very dangerous try for the first ship to exit instead of #4, then #3, then #2, then #1 which mean quite a delay.

Great shots, thanks! We were on the same cruise. Weather was smooth all week, with a slight exception of the day in Roatan as it rained some and was cloudy, but as I remember, not too windy. We did the clip and zip at the top of the hill. A lot of fun.

We were there on the Crown at Christmas, and had much worse weather. We skipped Grand Cayman because of winds, and did dock in Roatan, but it rained hard all morning, but I guess we were lucky enough not to have lots of wind, as we left on schedule and made it to Cozumel.
