14 night = 2 7night B2B?

We booked our cruise as a 14 night and realize it is actually 2-7 night cruises. I do know that we have the same penthouse suite the whole 14 nights, but . . .

1. Do we have to dis/re-embark when we return to the departure port (our mid-way)?

2. Do we have to go through muster drill twice?

3. If we purchase items from Duty Free shops during the first week, will we retrieve the items the last night of the first week or at the end of the 14 nights?

Thanks in advance!

1. Do we have to dis/re-embark when we return to the departure port (our mid-way)? Yes. For sure in Miami, but others have said some ports do not make you do this.

2. Do we have to go through muster drill twice? No. You will not be on their list for the 2nd week. I would suggest that you stay in your cabin or else be prepared to explain the situation to every crew member you see.

3. If we purchase items from Duty Free shops during the first week, will we retrieve the items the last night of the first week or at the end of the 14 nights? We got our items on the last night of the 1st week.

Thanks in advance!

Hope this helps.

Let me clarify Guyver's answer to #1.

You will physically have to exit the ship at the midway point but you will not have to pack your bags and take them off with you. This applies to all ports in the US. Some people have said this does not need to be done in certain ports in Europe.

Even in the US you may not be required to exit the ship although it is apparently the typical procedure. Last October in Philadelphia it wasn't required. It all depends on the procedures CBP is using in that particular port that day...and they do change procedures from time to time.

We are on this cruise and have booked the same cabin for both weeks also - thanks for asking these questions, I wondered about some of them too. We booked as a 14 night - from what I've read, we will only get credit for one cruise - not 2 - correct? Too bad we don't get extra latitude credits for longer trips - bummer.

How do you not know if you have the same cabin? you need to find out, make some calls. If you don't have the same cabin, the crew will move you luggage to your new cabin.

The OP does know. Here's what he said: "I do know that we have the same penthouse suite the whole 14 nights".

We are booked on 14 days B2B cruise on Epic Aug 21-Sep 4.

Out of curiousity I priced one 14 days against 2 x 7 days and guess what? The 14 days came out $1,500 cheaper than the total of two 7 days cruises. We are family of 3 in BA cat cabin (stern).

I asked similar questions when we booked same itin. - but my point is that we WANT to get off in Venice as early as possible mid-cruise and don't want to be held up on our mission by pax trying to disembark.;)

This itin. starts in less than 2 weeks so hopefully by mid-May we will have our questions answered by those in the same boat, so to speak, :p when they come back with reviews ;)

PS our TA said we would have to do the muster drill twice

I have to look at this real close so the post Police don't come down on me again. Your TA is not on your cruise, from my last B2B we did not do Muster on the second half of the cruise. If you are in a suite?? your concierge can get you off the ship earlier then most, keep you key card and ID(passport) with you and you won't have to go thru check-in again. They should have a VIP room for suite passg. I will not be in Venice until Oct. so not real sure.

We were on a B2B last year and mid way point was Miami. We were getting off the ship to explore anyway but we had to have our passports with us. We kept the same key card and room (DH is registered blind so did not want to change environment) and did not attend muster drill - sat on our balcony with a drink instead - very civilised:p No one came looking for us. Have a great time on your B2B

Dadoflostboys,

We have done 4 back-to-back cruises with NCL and have had to leave the ship when it comes back into port. It is a very simple process and we have always had the same room. Take your passport with you and you will be escorted to a special room and then will walk through customs and back onto the ship. You will not have to attend the second muster drill.

The last back-to-back was in February, 2009 on the Jewel and NCL booked it as a 14 day cruise. I was told at the time of booking that I would not have to leave the ship when coming back into Miami. I questioned this while on the ship with the manager at the Information Desk and was told that it was not a 14 day cruise but two 7 day cruises. When we booked it we lost out on the second week of Onboard Credit which amounted to $250.00 by NCL booking it as one cruise. Please check all of this out before you sail.

You'll only need a new sign and sail card if your second leg of the b2b has a separate booking number. If this is the case than each leg will count as a single cruise on your past cruise count for your latitude reward tier. One booking number counts as just one cruise, and your sign and sail card will have a cruising date printed on it which will cover both legs.

Thanks - we booked as a 14-day like the OP, and it has one booking number. Will we have to be back on board 2hrs before sailaway mid-cruise, or can we cut it closer?

We are on the Gem in May and I also had the same questions and received from NCL several different answers. It all depended who answered the phone. So - I would be happy to report back when we return and let you know what really happens. :)

We are booked for 14 days with 1 booking/confirmation # vs. a B2B with 2 booking/confirmation #'s.

There is no foolproof way to answer your question in advance of your cruise. A procedure that may have been in place last year, or on a different ship, or in a different port might not be the procedure that will be used for your cruise.

All I can say is that you should follow the instructions provided by the cruise line when you are on board your ship.

Yes...you make a mistake, and it's the "post police's" fault.

Al Gore should have known this sort of thing was going to happen when he invented the Internet.

So I make a mistake and admit to it, get corrected by the post police, as should have been done, so how is it the fault of the post police?? Did I say that it was? sorry, but I have now lost all my respect for your answers on these boards, you have helped many people with you posts over the years but this is just wrong.:(

This is the BEST answer to all b2b questions since each one, even on the same ship, is handled differently, especially depending on the port.

You took what I consider to be a gratuitous potshot at me with the "post police" comment. I had no argument with what you said before that comment.

That's how I read it. If it wasn't intended that way, I apologize for the return "zinger".

No intent to single you out, you have been around long enough to know that there are plenty of "post police" on the boards, I'm sure I will hear from some of them on future posts, again ,it was not my intent to single you out.
