Best Beach for Beach Day in Curacao

Recommended Posts

Good Morning. DW and I will be in Curacao on Oct 23, and I was wondering what the best beach would be to go to for a relaxing day in the sun. Also what amenities are there?

Thanks

There are several beaches that I liked in Curacao. There is Blue Bay: they have a dive shop, nice beach and a little dock with fluffy chairs with umbrellas. they have food (best french fries on the island!) and a bar. Cannot walk to this beach, but it is about a 10-15 minute ride.

Then there is Hooks Hut area. they have a Dive Shop, nice beach and a bar also. They are next to the Hilton in Curacao. They also have a restaurant and they have great Wings and Bittenballen.......YUM. It is not as far away as Blue Bay. Takes about 5 minutes to get there.

Then there is Holiday Beach....close to port and it was close to where I worked, when I lived there. They have a nice beach. There is also a Dive Shop and pool and restaurant and bar. No ride needed to get there. my favorite food there was the Fajitas and frozen drinks and the beer was always cold.

There are lots of other beaches that are equally as nice ALL over the Island, but it took me 1 year to visit most of them as I dove most them.

I will be headed back on cruise in November......cannot wait.

Is it easy to get a taxi back to the ship from Blue Bay? I imagine if going to Hooks Hut area, you could get a taxi from the Hilton Hotel??

Thanks for all your help.

Yes, easy either way. Blue Bay is part of a Best Western site. Can look it up on line. Hook's Hut too. Don't even have to walk to the Hilton, just catch a cab there. Just ask your driver that takes you there to pick ya up at a certain time and they will be there. If not, just let staff know you need a cab.

You can try Playa Porto Mari for a beautiful beach that isn't very crowded and has plenty of umbrellas and chairs. It has a double reef that is very close to shore (50' - 100') with plenty of fish to see in the ultra clear water. It does require a 20 or 25 minute taxi ride (or you can do what we did and rent a car at the pier and drive--it's not that hard to find). They have a nice web site, playaportomari.com, that has all the information and contacts you'll need.

Do you have to pay an entrance fee to get into this beach or other beaches on Curacao? Thanks!

Yes, but the amount is so minimal. the fees help keep the beaches clean. Most of the public beaches are trashy and unkept and no facilities. All beaches on the south, west and east have great snorkeling areas.

curacao...any comments on the beach at the marriott beach resort (john kennedy blvd)? How far from port? How is the beach?

i loved the marriott beach/hotel area. Spent a lot of time there, but they charge cruisers to use their beach and pool area. They have a great bar, which is also a swim up bar, great restaurant, wonderful beach, bathrooms are clean, and it is close to port. Maybe a 5-6 minute drive, to the west. They make the burgers on the island.

We are trying to decide between Hooks Hut and Holiday Beach. Which is better? How far of a walk is Holiday Beach and how do you get there from the ship?

Thanks for any information and advice.

i like them both. Holiday Beach is just east of the MegaPier@ the Renaissance Marriott hotel. Off the ship ... go left about 3 blocks.

Hooks Hut ... about a 5 minute car ride. took me 40 minutes to walk it, but if you are not into walking...not far.

curacao, you make me wanna go back, to see Elvis and Cerita, oh such good drinks.

amen........I just got back from cruise to Belize, Roatan and Cozumel. hands down...curacao has better diving. I really miss the diving there. The water clarity in Belize and Roatan was not good, at all. Cozumel was great, but no match to Curacao. I cannot wait to see Elvis...will have to find Cerita...does she work at the Marriott also? If so, where.?

I just want to beach it for the day and check out the town. I have been looking at Knap Bay, but it is hard to find info. It seems that it also goes by a few other names. I am looking for info on a cab to get there from the pier. How long? How Much? Etc. We are docked from 8-4 so not a long day. I am wondering if it would even be worth the trek out there or if we should go somewhere closer to the pier. Thanks in advance.

Would you say Holiday beach is a better option than Kon Tiki (or whatever they're calling it these days) due to the proximity to the dock?

Yes, I liked Holiday Beach. I spent a lot of time there as they have a great bar, great restaurant and a great beach. There is also a dive shop, pool, restrooms, and a shower to use before you leave. There is also a casino there, so if someone in your group does not like "beaching" it all day. Never been in the casino so I cannot offer much info there. When I was there, lots of our Military were staying there, so I felt proud to hang with them and share stories of home. Super Bowl was fun them, as most of them were from Pittsburgh at the time.

Kon Tiki is OK, but it is crowded, noisy and the dive shop was not open at the time for night dives. I did not go there much.icon7.gif

Curacao,

You have so much information, just wondered if you can help with this one!

I have mobility issues, and may take my scooter off the ship (if it is practical) We are thinking of going to Holiday Beach. Are there side walks to navigate my scooter on? Is there a place the scooter could be left at the Beach?

If Holiday Beach is not a good option, can you suggest another that might work for me?

yes there are sidewalks, just be careful...If parked at the Mega Pier, get off ship and go left. Holiday Beach is just on the other side of Denny's.

I think the Holiday Beach is a great option with moblility. You can possibly leave the scooter at this large area that is by the bar. just a few steps and you're on the beach and a few more after that you are in the water. There is a breaker there so the Waves don't come in.

I worked/lived there for a year and went to MOST of the beachs and a lot of the dive sites.

FYI..Mambo and Kon-Tiki would not be a good option. Just an FYI!

Good Luck...Take care....have fun.

Just noticed that you are on the 1st Carnival line down there. Tried to get on that one, but would not fit my busy Football schedule.

LOL.........
