Night Life on RCCL???

Ok, I've been reading threads on this board for about three months now, and I have to say I'm getting worried. All of my past cruises have been on Carnival. My husband and I aren't big partiers, we hardly even drink, but we are in our mid 30's and still like to go out and "cut a rug" sometimes. (Well, I do, he tries, bless his heart.;) )

I keep reading that people don't like Carnival because of too much partying. I didn't really ever see anything that I would call heavy partying, and definately nothing that would turn me off. So I'm scared. Is there night life on RCCL that we will enjoy?

I like disco and anything 80's, but also have fun swing dancing, salsa, hustle...

I'm starting to get the idea that night life on RCCL is people sitting around in their tuxes and and listening to a second rate lounge singer.:(

Please tell me it isn't so.

Carnival got it's poor reputation years ago, allowing young people to cruise and party on the boats. I had heard stories of beer cans being thrown around the pool area and such. Also rumored that food and cabin quality were sacrificed for the "fun" ambience.

About 5 years ago Carnival made a determined effort to improve their image.

Now, as for RCC. First of all there is a live show in the showroom every night. There is the casino if you like gambling. There is a disco on each ship as well as several lounges. Each of the lounges offers a different type of entertainment so you might find Karaoke in one lounge, salsa music and dancing in another, a piano player doing impersonations and telling jokes in another, and so on and so forth. There are also costume parties, newlywed games and a ton of other activities to choose from. And while I am one of the oldies, happy to sit around and listen to music.....if you like to party, you might just want to stroll back to your cabin and entertain yourselves :D

The night life is ok.,...The 70's disco night is a big party night, the island night is a huge party night and there may be 1 or 2 other nights. I think Westrn route gets more partiers than eastern Caribbean

They keep u very busy at night with shows and events and dont miss the Quest

Oh my goodness! You'll be fine. There is plenty of nightlife like you are looking for. We like the same thing and we have never had a problem finding something fun to do. It also depends on the ship you're on. The Voyager Class ships have great nightclubs and pubs. On other ships...get to the Viking Crown late night.....Always a good time. Have a great cruise.

Hi there!

We've been on both lines...older and newer ships and have always found SOMETHING to do to have fun! My husband and I like to party as well and have never been disappointed in any of our cruises as far as the "fun factor".

Hope this helps! If you have any specific questions...email me at cgage61299@aol.com!

Happy Cruising!

the number of nights of the cruise is a big factor as to how much dancing/partying is done late at night. On our 7 night on the Serenade, we were in the "disco" every night. Some nights there were lots of partyers, other nights we WERE the party. On the Enchantment 4 night last Sept you couldn't even GET on the dance floor in the "disco" unless you like being real close. :-) We were on the dance floor and closed the bar every night.

Bottom line, extended cruises tend to have smaller crouds in the disco, but there are MANY things to do at night. If you're bored, you're not paying attention to all that is offered. You will have a BLAST!

VABeach....

Don't worry about it. You are needlessly stressing yourself. There is always something going on aboard ship. It often times makes it difficult to get to bed at night as you feel like you will be missing something. At least that is how I found it to be on Explorer and Mariner. And trust me, it is not a lot of people sitting around in tuxes and formal wear.

The ships have many types of lounges with different music types. You can find anything from quiet places to very lively places.

Which ship are you going on?

VABeach,

We are also in our 30's. My DH swears he's Usher on the dance floor...it really embarasses me sometimes but I still love him. Anyway, we went on Explorer to the Western Caribbean last year the last week of April and we were in the Chamber (dance club and lounge) almost everynight. I mean our cruise tab was full of charges from the Chamber. There were always lots of people in there dancing and drinking until the bar shut down. The DJ was happy to take requests and actually had a lot of up to date music. It was a blast. We also liked the sports bar and the pools bars. Some of the bars along the Promenade were so packed you couldn't even get in. We did spend time on other areas of the ship, but in the evening we found ourselves drawn back....to the Chamber! But don't miss out on the midnight party on the pool deck...the live music and dancing is a lot of fun. We are going on Carnival for the first time this year and I hoping it's going to be as much fun as RCCL! How ironic.

Your vacation is really all about what you make it and there's nothing wrong with being the only ones on the dance floor!

Have fun!!!!!

VABeach - when are you going? Although my friends and I are in our 40's we always find a party. If there isn't one then we will start one. We are traveling on the Radiance leaving March 13th. Our week includes St. Patty's day and we are going to dress up for that;)

I think you'll have a great time !!

VABeach - You won't have a hard time finding a "party" so to speak at all... Just depends on the mood you ar elooking for that particular night...

I know for a fact that if you are traveling on a Voyager Class ship you will be able to really party hard in the club everynight if that is what you are looking for...

and if you are to travel during a "college break" period I am sure you will be greeted with a packed dance floor in the club considering it is 18 and up in there... I've traveled over a college winter, spring and summer break on a voyager ship and all 3 times it was pretty wild. But I am sure it will be the same for a non-college break period as well, just a bit more mature crowd.

But all-in-all voyager ship or not you will be just fine.

We're going on Grandeur in June out of Baltimore. Don't get me wrong, we're not huge drinkers or anyting (too health concious for that) but we do prefer the more lively, less prudish crowd.:D

I don't think our ship has the "Chamber". It's one of the older, smaller, ships.

Maybe I need to drag hubby out to the dance studio so he can brush up on his Hustle and Swing moves.:p

I think you will love the Grandeur. Granted it is not a Voyager class ship, but it is certainly not small. We have sailed her twice and have never been at a loss for fun. The staff on the Grandeur is wonderful with exception of one very snooty British lady at the pursers desk who acted like we were bothering her the couple(2) of times we stopped by to ask a question about our our Seapass account. Maybe she was having a bad day, who knows? Have a wonderful cruise!!
