Cabins 711 & 716 Spirit

Recommended Posts

I wonder if anyone has stayed in either of these 2 cabins on Spirit, outside on deck 2. We have booked them for our forthcoming trip, Pearls/Explorer, as on the deck plan we thought they looked to be larger. We have previously had outside cabins on deck 3 on Destiny so have some idea what to expect, and we found these to be perfectly adequate. Hope someone will be able to help.

Hi maewestie, :)

If you found the cabins on Destiny to be 'adequate' you will find even the 'basic' cabins on Spirit seem very much more spacious (it's probably not THAT much bigger - but for example an extra foot of width in a smallish space makes a great deal of difference to how much floor space you have and how 'roomy' it feels). There is also much better storage in the cabins on Spirit - usually three sets of drawers (of varying widths) - but no problem finding room for everything. So, I wouldn't go for something that just looks bigger - I don't think space will be an issue for you at all - whatever the cabin.

I can't actually find those cabins on the deck plan I have  (only 710,714, 718) but presumably they could be extra ones taken from prevous staff cabins? (The Entertainment team seem to disappear down this area to their quarters) I assume yours must be in the same area as 710 etc. though.

BUT it is the noisy end of the deck - engines are at the back - and this is most obvious on the lower decks. I'd prefer to be more mid-ships or even aft - it's much quieter as you get away from the stern.

So my advice would be to consider the noise rather than the size. Sorry to seem a bit negative about your cabins - but I'd rather tell you so you can weigh it up rather than you get there and wish someone had mentioned it beforehand. :)

Hang on there kruzseeka !! 711 and 716 are midships on Deck 2. :) ( and not meaning to be critical but surely you meant fore not aft too ! :) ) They are larger than the rest on that deck and have a large set of drawers between the two beds that actually lie stern to bow rather than starboard to port or port to starboard. ( by that I mean your head/the pillow is towards the stern of the boat and your feet would be about 6 ft nearer the bow ) The only disavantage of these two cabins are if the gangway is on that side of the ship as each cabin is by each gangway point on that deck if that deck is being used for disembarkation which it often is. So occasionally at a nice dawn hour if the ship arrives in port early you will get the creaking noise of that going up and down at say 6.30am and if tours set of early and you are not going you will have people gathered nattering outside your door and by the lifts. That said they are two of the most requested cabins on that deck on that ship for reason of their size. :)

Oops! Another senior moment!! :o Sorry about that - I can see them now - I'd looked for them in the vicinity of the adjacent numbers and couldn't find them. That explains it!!!

And yes, I'm the one who's always walking in the wrong direction looking for my cabin!!!! You're right I don't know my 'fore from my aft' - or others may may have another expression for it! :D

Well, maewestie, sorry to have alarmed you unnecessarily - it's a good job someone else has their wits about them! Mid-ships is good - apart from the rider regarding the gangplank noise at certain times - that area doesn't suffer from engine noise, so no worries there. Sorry again for the confusing post. Doh! ;)

Thanks everyone for replies :)

We chose these two cabins because they are mid-ships & the fact that they appeared to be larger was an added bonus! We hoped there wasn't going to be a catch. We had thought about the gangplank being in that part of the ship but it just adds to the excitement when coming in to dock.

Think we may come across you Wynforth!:)

Hi maewestie

We had this cabin on Spirit in Sept 08. It is enormous compared to others on that deck. Our 6 friends were so jealous that we had cabin 711, they thought we had booked a suite! We tried to get it for our cruise this year on 4th June but it was already taken - even though we booked it over 12 months ago. Dont be put off by it being next to the gangplank, this did not bother us at all, and its not every day that particular one is used.

Enjoy your cruise
