ROMEOANDJULIET91 Posted April 27, 2010 #1 Share Posted April 27, 2010 Okay here is the deal we have a 4F. I just saw a 6B become available...with sofa and upper since there are 4 of us ( 2 adults and 2 kids). Sould I go for the Oceanview on the riviera or stay with the inside on the Empress? There will be no cost difference since I didn't book ES....only the FREE up grade. Looking for opinions on this only not booking balcony and other things. Thanks in advance!;)
MrPete Posted April 27, 2010 #2 Share Posted April 27, 2010 We got stuck in an inside TWICE. It was like sailing in a closet.
MamaParrotHead Posted April 27, 2010 #3 Share Posted April 27, 2010 Go for the OV. Even if it's psychological, having the window will make it feel less cramped.
mom2lillirissa Posted April 27, 2010 #4 Share Posted April 27, 2010 I would always opt for the OV if I had the chance. Not too worried about which deck I'm on, just watch for possible noise if you are over or under a loud place.
Lady_Jag Posted April 27, 2010 #5 Share Posted April 27, 2010 I prefer an ocean view. Depending on the ship you're sailing, an OV will give you a few more square feet of space than the IS. Also, how are the sleeping arrangements in your 4F? 2 uppers, or upper and roll away? Definitely skip the roll away and go for the OV if that's the case. Good luck! firefly333 Posted April 27, 2010 #6 Share Posted April 27, 2010 The OV might be larger, not sure which ship we are talking about.
pjtulsa Posted April 27, 2010 #7 Share Posted April 27, 2010 I do both but only insides when its just me & DH... When we take the kids, we book OV or Balcony for the additional room. Its a huge difference! With the OV your bed will not have the kids above your bed, they will instead be on a sofa that has a bunk above it. During the day, the bunk is put back into the ceiling and you have a sofa to sit on if needed. Bathroom is the same size but you can always take advantage of the showers in the spa if you all need to shower at the same time. Some of the spas have wonderful showers.:)
golfadj Posted April 27, 2010 #8 Share Posted April 27, 2010 If the cabin is about the same would go for the window. I just do not see the point of paying much extra for a window.

ROMEOANDJULIET91 Posted April 27, 2010 Author #10 Share Posted April 27, 2010 so on the Destiny is the OV bigger than IS...anybody know?
MrPete Posted April 27, 2010 #11 Share Posted April 27, 2010 so on the Destiny is the OV bigger than IS...anybody know? THE OV's on the Destiny usually have an extra 35 square feet, which, on the higher decks, are the balconies. I may be confusing this with the Conquest class ship, though.
jpg1747 Posted April 27, 2010 #12 Share Posted April 27, 2010 I book a 1A for the price and always try to get one with a window or porthole. If I had an inside I'd definitely move to an OV for the same price.
lollylew Posted April 27, 2010 #13 Share Posted April 27, 2010 I believe that the OV are 220 sq ft while the inside cabins are 185 sq ft. I would always take an OV over and inside any day even if on the lowest deck.
Tiffany1203 Posted April 27, 2010 #14 Share Posted April 27, 2010 Definitly OV!! :)
okgirl Posted April 27, 2010 #15 Share Posted April 27, 2010 I'm an IS snob because of the price and frequency that I cruise but I would never turn down an OV or BL for the same price......

I sail with four people, and we get inside, but we have had that type of OV room and we loved it, not because of the window, but the room we had. ManyMore Posted April 27, 2010 #17 Share Posted April 27, 2010 Good choice to go with the OV for the same price. The deck being higher isn't all that big a deal that you had for the inside. I would rather OV on Riv, just a minute or two longer on the elevator lol
remisue16 Posted April 28, 2010 #18 Share Posted April 28, 2010 I would go with the OV but the hubby would vote for an IS because he loooooves the dark!
jamers22 Posted April 28, 2010 #19 Share Posted April 28, 2010 I would go for the OV, but my husband likes the IS cabins. I also like the lower decks since I'm prone to being seasick.
maldenmusic Posted April 28, 2010 #20 Share Posted April 28, 2010 I'd go for the OV on a lower level. If you are prone to motion sickness the lower you are the better most of the time. And I think the Empress Deck is where you enter and depart the ship (I may be wrong on this) and if so it can be a bit hectic on the level. Go lower and get an OV. :)
momofzeke Posted April 28, 2010 #21 Share Posted April 28, 2010 OV for sure! I see absolutely no advantage to being on a higher deck on the ship. We've been on Riviera deck twice and loved it. Low and in the middle is where I like to be. The window is very nice. It's great to be able to see outside. I've done inside and oceanview and definitely love the OV much better. Have fun! :)
ROMEOANDJULIET91 Posted April 28, 2010 Author #22 Share Posted April 28, 2010 Well, the first and second was lower but the rest was higher...so for 40 bucks total I went from Inside to Oceanview. ;) I love being a past guest!:D
mominwestlake Posted April 28, 2010 #23 Share Posted April 28, 2010 I've been wondering the same thing about an IS and OV so I was glad to find this thread. I need to book 2 cabins. If there are 4 people in a cabin, is it better to book an OV (220 sq ft) or a balcony (185 sq ft)? Does the extra 35 sq ft really make a difference? Aplmac Posted April 28, 2010 #25 Share Posted April 28, 2010 so on the Destiny is the OV bigger than IS...anybody know? Here's my one and only shot of Carnival Destiny inside Cabin 2283 on Main Deck. Only half the cabin is shown (Mickey Mouse point-and-shoot camera) but we found it quite comfortable for my wife and I and sometimes a grand-dau who was in and out, busy with her cuzzins also on the same cruise. But to answer your question, GO for the Ocean View cabin on the lower deck You'll get a more comfortable ride for starters -not to mention a nice window.. ;) .
