bazzaw Posted May 3, 2010 #1 Share Posted May 3, 2010 Is it a thing of the past? I have done it many times on Navy ships - but wondering if passenger ships do it. I can't imagine passengers these days being subjected to what was common in the past. :) Barry
Druke I Posted May 3, 2010 #2 Share Posted May 3, 2010 Princess ships do a "crossing the line" ceremony; as Princess and P&O are so closely related, I should think P&O would also do it.
Merlin7 Posted May 3, 2010 #3 Share Posted May 3, 2010 It happened on Aurora but those getting the full treatment were mostly staff, including the captain. Very amusing the number of people who, on hearing the announcement from the bridge, actually got up to look for the red line to mark the equator. Somerset Cruiser Posted May 4, 2010 #4 Share Posted May 4, 2010 They did it on Artemis last year, only the crew taking part.
tring Posted May 4, 2010 #5 Share Posted May 4, 2010 We had a very funny ceremony on Minerva II after we emerged from the Amazon in Oct 2006. It was several months before Swan Hellenic was axed as a Carnival line and the ceremony featured King Carnival who with many amusing inuendos threw a number of crew including the Captain in to the pool (which had been partially drained for the event). One passenger went in as well, but he was a member of P&O staff on his honeymoon and was convicted of making his new wife 'old before her time' by taking her on a Swan Hellenic cruise! All was very well received by victims and onlookers.
