What is your sail-away tradition?

Recommended Posts

What is your sail-away celebration tradition? My husband and I will be going on our first cruise together in June, and I thought it might be nice to start a tradition at sail-away ... something we will always do to start the cruise off right! I have a few ideas ... we have our own balcony ... but I know all you creative people probably have some great ways to celebrate too!

Soo ... how do you celebrate sail-away? In your room? On the deck? Whatever you do, let me know! :D

We've only been on one prior cruise but we leave again this Sunday! We loved hanging out on the back of the ship in the Great Outdoors area on the Pearl.... Watch the Seattle skyline fade into the distance.

Depends on the itinerary ... when we sail out of New York City, we find ourselves "top deck" so that we can watch the Statue of Liberty sail by starboard side, and then as we sail under the Verrazano Narrows Bridge.

When we sail the Carribean, we are on our balcony, sipping a glass of champaigne as we transit the channel out of Miami ... it's private, it's romantic and the 'bubbly' is a great touch.

Wine or Champagne plus fruit and cheese on our balcony! Last cruise - Oasis of the Seas - a lot of locals came out to see the ship - they even had banners and air horns for the Oasis! We took a lot of photos because this was unusual! It was quite the sendoff, but every departure is special in its own way! Have a wonderful time on your cruise!

We drop off our carryons in our room, get a drink, walk around the ship while it is still relatively empty, get a picture taken of the both of us with something in the background from the departure port then just hang out at the bar near the pool for the rest of the afternoon until dinner time.

We have a tradition of being on our balcony, me with a cup of coffee, Doug usually with water or a coke, and watching the port fade away. Boring to some I know.. but nothing I love more than being there at that moment with the love of my life.

We have a tradition of watching from our own balcony with Andre Bocelli singing and enjoying the room. Always bocelli.

I sure am going to miss seeing you in the casino on our cruise this month. Wish you guys could some how join us onboard. Hope you are all doing well.

I agree, Doctor D! We love to watch sail-away on the pool deck, drink in hand, listening to the calypso band. I always feel that humbling moment of gratitude for my good fortune during that time.

We don't have the budget for a balcony room so our tradition at sailaway is we're sitting at a window table in one of the lounges, having a drink, watching as we leave the port, starting our week or more of relaxation.

A bottle of champagne on the balcony and dream about the remainder of the cruise.

This is our favorite part of a cruise, watching the port fade away and knowing you can let work get out of your mind for a while.

At the pool with a drink in hand listening to the band and joining in on the festivities. The sail away is always a great way to get the cruise started. Unfortunatly the last cruise on Carnival - no sailaway just a few people hanging around the pool with nothing to do....:(

I love sailaway time, it is so exciting, everybody is so happy!

When sailing out of NY, you definately have to be top deck, watching the NY skyline getting smaller, sailing past the Statue of Liberty, under the Verazzano bridge...the best sailaway there is!

In Miami, you pass the very tip of South Beach, while still exciting, not so scenic. For us, it is balcony time, sharing a bottle of wine or bubbly. Get a balcony on the left side of the ship for best views out of MIA. It is pretty festive, though, you may want to be on deck for the party atmosphere.

While I don't remember our sailaway out of NOLA very well, I DO recall sailing under a bridge that was pretty cool. Afterwards, it was very rocky, until we got out of the Mississippi river.

Sailing out of Seattle was very cool, too, but I think it was more of a balcony sailiaway for us. Very laid back, watching the Seattle skyline fade from view.
