marco Posted May 12, 2010 #1 Share Posted May 12, 2010 We just returned from a barge cruise in France and a week in Paris. As we added on the week in Paris, the air was on our own. It was almost $200 pp cheaper to fly from Bradley on AirCanada and connect in Montreal than it was to take any airline out of JFK/Newark/Logan. It's a small plane to Montreal, so it took almost a minute to board and once we were boarded, we took off. Same thing coming home and as there approx 20 people on the plane, it took no time at all to claim luggage and get out of the airport. We got a ride to the airport which also lessened the cost by not incurring transportation cost to JFK/Newark/Logan. I would rather spend two hours connecting than riding 2 hours to get to the airport (especially coming home!) Our flight was on a 777 from Montreal to Paris, and we were very pleased with the cabin, seating, service, ammenities and meals! For us, from now on when we are going to Europe it will be AirCanada out of Bradley!

YXU AC*SE Posted May 13, 2010 #3 Share Posted May 13, 2010 Sadly that is one of the obscene perversities of airline market pricing. AC is looking to increase its international market share, by skimming traffic from markets proximal (and is some cases not so) to its principal international gateways (Toronto, Montréal, and Vancouver). In fact, you can fly the route, quite often cheaper than we can leaving directly from Toronto or Montréal!) I took a look at pricing from a number of US and Canadian origin points for a 10 day trip, arbitrarily leaving for Paris on 30th August, returning on 9th September, over the Labour Day weekend. All flights are on Air Canada / Air Canada Jazz metal -- no code shares, and connect through either Toronto or Montréal. Prices are all-in, and are all in USD for sake of comparison. LGA 778$ EWR 778$ BDL 884$ BOS 884$ IAH 897$ PIT 900$ PHL 902$ ORD 936$ STL 950$ CLT 952$ RDU 954$ ALB 1008$ PVD 1008$ PWM 1008$ SYR 1008$ DEN 1009$ YOW 1025$ YQB 1031$ YUL 1036$ YYZ 1132$ YXU 1272$ -- always nice to see my home airport, which is only 87 miles from Toronto at the bottom of the list! :-) So in order to make sense of this, one can fly (on AC) from Denver to Toronto to Paris RTN, for 123$ less than the guy sitting beside him, only flying from Toronto to Paris RTN. Enjoy that for as long as it lasts! :-) Scott.
