What should I (possibly) order from BV?

I'm not a big drinker at all. However, on my cruise I do plan to drink a little. I've had a horrible couple of years with sickness and deaths in my family (my mom from cancer, which hit me really hard :(, and FIL from a heart attack),and a bunch of other problems with my autistic son and now my daughter. Looking forward to this cruise is just about the only thing that is keeping me sane right about now, and when I'm there I want to relax and enjoy myself, and toast to hoping that things get better in the future. Anyway, enough about my problems LOL.

What should a girl who isn't a big drinker order from BV? I'm not sure if I'm going to take wine with us. I like vodka, but don't know what would be good to mix it with besides orange juice. Rum is ok. I've never tried any of the other things. And how many drinks can you get out of a bottle? A big bottle might be too much...

Unfortunately, as of yesterday, they stopped offering this service. Yours is a stellar example of why that decision is really, really shortsighted, stupid and unfortunate.

Cant' believe you missed the breaking news and numerous threads that Bon Voyage' Dept. is still selling liquor in advance !!!

OP.... order what you like to drink when at home or out at a bar restaurant...rum mixes well with many things.

If you're not a big drinker I would suggest a bottle of Malibu rum~ coconut flavored~ goes good with OJ, the guava juice they have in the morning, coke~if you want to get a soda card, dr pepper if you want to bring some on board~

Hmmm, malibu rum sounds good. I don't have any liquor at home and about the only restaurants we go to are Mickey D's and last time I checked, they don't serve booze. LOL I haven't gone to a bar in ages.

If you like vodka over rum, ship has cranberry juice, maybe bring along small cans of pineapple juice - think that's a baybreeze? seabreeze? Anyone? Always bring along V8 for bloody mary, although they do have tomato juice in the morning.

Carnival has sprite would make a typical vodka and 7.

Watch the drinks of the day , very sweet to the taste and very potent on the alcohol.

Watch for specials in the atrium bar if you're going on the Miracle. They have happy hour specials, range from tequila drinks, to mojitos, to martinis.

Condolences on your losses. We went down that same road for about a 4 year stretch, so I've walked the walk. Enjoy your cruise and here's wishing for better times and good health to you and your family

Thank you Kathy, and I'm sorry about your losses too.

I don't really want to bring any mixers on, my husband doesn't want to lug extra stuff, so whatever I get will have to be mixed with soda or juice from the ship.

Hate to break in here, but does anyone know how soon before cruise you can order it? Not sailing until Dec, but I don't want them to change their mind again. ;) Thanks!

I just ordered for my october cruise, and had no problems. Someone posted that they ordered for their cruise in 2011. So I think you will be fine. I agree, its probably best to order now, just incase.

Seabreeze - vodka, cranberry and grapefruit juices

Baybreeze - vodka, cranberry and pineapple juices

I think vodka is the universal liquor. It doesn't have a taste of it's own so can pretty much be mixed with anything. Since it sounds like you don't drink much, I think this would be ideal, and then you can try different combos based on your mood and what mixers are available at the time (oj at breakfast for screwdrivers, cranberry from room service for cape cods, sprite on the lido for something more fruity, redbull in the casino, etc.)

I am very sorry about all the problems that you have been having. I do not want to sound like a preacher but at this time you are very vulnerable and if you try to drown your sorrows in alcohol it could quite easily lead to major problems down the road.

On a cruise there are many ways to have fun and forget your troubles, eating, shows, eating, shore excursions, eating, etc.

I am not condemning drinking as I drink a fair amount myself. But I drink when I am happy and drink to enjoy myself. Sad people who drink to forget their troubles are the ones who turn into mean drunks, cause fights, make enemies.

Since you don't drink much and are unfamiliar with alcohol, a liter would be too much for you and if you drink, you would be much better off with an occasional Drink of the Day.

God Bless and I hope all your troubles fade and that you enjoy your cruise immensely.

On our last sailing, I had Malibu and brought Crystal lite packets with me. I think the one I mixed with the Malibu was something like Orange Sunrise. The crystal lite packets are handy to carry and I just mix them in my water bottle.

If your group is not planning on having more than 10 drinks of the same liquor on your cruise, it might not make sense to buy a bottle from BV.

If you like wine, bring your allotted amount of wine with you, ask your room steward for a corkscrew and glasses and enjoy. I brought one of those "boxes" of wine - just so I could have just one glass when I wanted one without having to open a whole bottle.

If the BV bottles are all a liter (I know the the Dewar's is a liter)- a liter is a lot for someone to consume on a short cruise.

If you are flying, it really might not make sense since you are unlikely to

want to carry the leftovers all the way home and you might not be allowed to get on the plane with an open bottle anyway...

If your cabin has a mini-fridge, you will have an assortment of mini's to choose from. I'm sure that your room steward would gladly replace any that you have consumed. You will have sodas and maybe a can of OJ in your mini-fridge too for mixers.

These all will cost you pretty much the same from your fridge as at the bar.

Your "house" liquor rum and coke will run you $5 or $6 at the bar. A bottle of rum will run you $55 or more. A can of coke will run you $2 unless you bring it with you.

You can get OJ and cranberry juice at the buffet for breakfast. You might be able to get it from room service without a charge, I can't remember. Bring along a small container and fill it up at breakfast and keep it in your fridge for later for convenience.

The lemonade that is on carnival (free) goes well with vodka!!! Have a great cruise...our dream cruise, is getting closer :)

Don't worry, if I was going to become an alcoholic, I would already be one. I'm not going to drink on the cruise to drown my sorrows really, just to get my mind off things, help me relax, get up and dance and have fun, which is hard for me because I'm usually a very quiet, shy, and reserved person. It was nice of you to be concerned about me, but don't worry, I'll be a good girl and I promise I won't start any fights or throw my husband overboard or anything. :D

Thanks for all the suggestions. I'll see what my husband says, if he's not gonna have a heart attack every time I whip out the S&S card to order the drink of the day (he's cheap!) or if he wants me to just get a bottle. If I might go with that Malibu rum because it sounds different and tasty, and sounds like something that should be drunk on a Caribbean vacation.

My new favorite girlie drink is called a Malibu Bay Breeze and it is

the perfect drink for a tropical cruise.

Super simple to make too. Equal parts:

cranberry juice

pineapple juice

Malibu Bay Rum
