Acitivites on the Solstice

Hi everyone!

We are considering a cruise on the Solstice for April of 2011. The itinerary at this time is San Juan, St. Thomas and St. Maarten with all other days at sea. Given the number of days at sea, I was wondering if anyone could shed light on the onboard activities. Is there a lot offered to do? We are also considering going on the Summit to the Southern Caribbean stopping at 5 ports. Any answers are appreciated!

Thanks!

Celebrity offers a decent amount of activities, but not as many as lines like Royal Caribbean. Celebrity is a great choice if you want a somewhat relaxing, pampered exeperience, but not the best choice if you need there to be multiple different activities at any given time. Here are the types of activities you may see on any given day on a Solstice Class ship:

*The Lawn Club tends to hold organized games such as bocce tournaments, golf putting contests, bean bag toss tournament etc. Or you can just play these games with your traveling companion rather than during an organized tournament.

*Hot Glass Show: On sea days there is usually at least a couple of hours of glass blowing demonstrations.

*Trivia contests.

*Guest lecturers (different topics from sailing to sailing).

*Dance Lessons

*Wine Tasting or Drink Mixing Class

*Gambling (Casino or Bingo)

*Spa Treatments

*Working out on own at gym or jogging track

*Reading (there is a decent library on board - best to go on day one for best selection of books)

*Wii tournaments

*Relaxing by Swimming Pool (indoor and outdoor pool)

*Evening Shows: (i.e. comedian, production show, Love & Marriage show etc.).

*Movies (there is a theater that shows a movie 2-3 times per day - different movie everyday; there are also movies on demand in your stateroom on the interactive TV).

*Drinking cocktails or coffee (lots of nice lounges on board and a nice coffee bar; often there is live music at various venues on and off throughout the day and evening).

If they offer a tour of the galley, be sure to sign up for it. It was one of the highlights of our Solstice cruise, this year!

If you're concerned about staying busy I'd recommend the Summit, the ports will wear you out.

Yes, all ships have things to do but a lot of the activities on celebrity are poorly attended, so there's little incentive for them to add more.

It really d ep ends on what you like to do. My DH loves sea days and spending time relaxing on board. I love port heavy itineraries. If you like lots of ports then choose the S. Caribbean cruise. Those are our very favorite ports. You will have a fabulous time!
