viajerita Posted May 28, 2010 #27 Share Posted May 28, 2010 Ok those were pics we took last year when we went with Juan Carlos over to the Mayan princess. It was $10 each to use their chairs/beach/pool. Can't remember what Juan Carlos charged, but I am sure its on his website. This is basically west Bay/Tabyana Beach. The Carnival excursion is just down the beach from here and this is nicer!;)
katharina03 Posted April 3, 2013 #28 Share Posted April 3, 2013 hey! i have a question - i'am wondering, if we have enough time for the "tabyana beach break" (this will be our frist cruise, so we are a litte bit nervous). our ship "carnival liberty" will be in roatan from 08.00-15.00, may 22. i read that the transfer takes about an hour each way. what do you think? thank you so much in advance, best regards from austria
topguy Posted April 3, 2013 #29 Share Posted April 3, 2013 I have been to Maya Key and loved it. The beach is not large, but it is still beautiful. They have a swimming pool, museum, animal preserve, great lunch (fried grouper when I was there). For an extra fee you can snokle with nurse sharks and stingrays in an enclosed area. There is also a long pier that streches out to a coral reef for snokling. See pics.
put me on a ship Posted April 3, 2013 #30 Share Posted April 3, 2013 We've been to both places, and loved them both! Snorkeling is excellent at both, if you want to swim off the beach, then Tabyana is better! We enjoyed the food at both also....the excursion for Maya Cay includes lunch, Tabyana you are on your own. We will go back to either of those places!
droy Posted April 3, 2013 #31 Share Posted April 3, 2013 Another private tour with Vic Bodden vote here. We are going to plan as we go that day but for now we will probably see the monkeys and snorkel at West Bay Beach - maybe visit an orphange. I like the idea of having just our group there and it be catered to how we are feeling that day - plus the price is awesome.
ScubaKat Posted April 3, 2013 #32 Share Posted April 3, 2013 hey! i have a question - i'am wondering, if we have enough time for the "tabyana beach break" (this will be our frist cruise, so we are a litte bit nervous). our ship "carnival liberty" will be in roatan from 08.00-15.00, may 22. i read that the transfer takes about an hour each way. what do you think? thank you so much in advance, best regards from austria I think you are confusing Roatan with Belize. Roatan is a pier stop, Belize is the long tender ride. You should have no problem with time doing the Tabyana Beach Break. Relax, you're going to have a great time. :)
Aviendah Posted April 5, 2013 #33 Share Posted April 5, 2013 We loved Maya Key! The snorkeling was superb and our boys loved the beach and the animals. It wasn't crowded and we loved hearing the sounds of the jungle while we relaxed. Here is a link with a lot of photos if you're interested. http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1548960&page=
Beau222 Posted April 5, 2013 #34 Share Posted April 5, 2013 We have not been to Maya but Tabyana was awesome, we also spent about two hours snorkeling there and I will tell you that when we came through the reef and actually hit the ocean side, it immediately reminded me of that part in Finding Nemo when Nemo sees the open Ocean. Thebosn1 Posted April 5, 2013 #35 Share Posted April 5, 2013 Sorry if I have posted this in the wrong place....new to this! I would like to do an excursion with Carnival while in Roatan but I'm not sure if I should do the Maya Key Island or the Tabyana Beach. I am mostly interested in spending time on the beach and maybe getting some good food. If you do the Tabyana Beach, what means of transportation does Carnival provide to the beach? Is there anything else to do there. I noticed that at Maya Key there is some other things there. I did Tabyana Beach about 8 years ago. It was a bus trip to the beach, but ours was combined with a dolphin swim as well. As for the beach itself, it was nice and relaxing. Very typical beach area with a snack bar and a drink bar and nice shady palms. Gifts shops across the street. The thing a remember about the whole port call in Roatan was that it was a beautiful island! Even the bus ride was nice because of the amazing scenery! Have fun! Rare mitsugirly Posted April 6, 2013 #36 Share Posted April 6, 2013 We went to West Bay (where Tabyana is located) 3 cruises ago (2011) and just went in December to Maya Key. We absolutley LOVE Maya Key and would do it again in a heartbeat. It is now one of our favorites. Like others have said, the snorkeling is simply AMAZING. You go out to the end of the pier and get in and WOW! So much coral and sea life everywhere. Think of the movie Finding Nemo...you are swimming along and get to the end and you see the drop off. It is amazing. It is an animal rescue place, so tons of animals, they have a wonderful pool, great food, and a replica Mayan Ruins there. Very lovely place. I did a COMPLETE and VERY LONG review from our visit there a few months ago if you are interested. You can find it here: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1755846&page=8 It starts at post 290 and goes on until post 348. :)
pandarider123 Posted October 5, 2013 #37 Share Posted October 5, 2013 I don't see why people are complaining. I contacted Maya key and they kindly said you have to book thru carnival. And gave me alot of good info.

tuscandream Posted October 5, 2013 #39 Share Posted October 5, 2013 Thanks everyone for the great information and pictures! I think that Tabyana Beach is what I'm looking for. I have alway gone through Carnival for excursions but I may check out one of the local tours. If I would go with a local, do they include chairs on the beach or take you to an area that does? What would that cost? Mahogany Bay looks very nice also but it would be nice to see some of the area outside of the port. Google island marketing the excursion is called west bay beach break which is tabyana they have round trip transportation I think it was very reasonable it does include 1 alcoholic drink and a chair. The beach is gorgeous there is a nice bar and grill they serve great food reasonable. Try the monkey la la drink it is so good.
