Mult Stage Trip-Insure One Leg Only?

We have just reserved a Trans Atlantic return cruise for October from Venice. Did it la few days ago.

In September we are planning to go with a family reunion to Italy, then spend a few days before the cruise and cruise home. The family reunion has no firm plans yet, no reservations, no deposits yet.

We just held the cruise a few days ago, using a Future Cruise Credit that was on file, so we didn't have to make a payment. But I'm assuming that for insurance purposes our reservation date is the date of what they call "first payment."

Can we insure only the cruise portion with a "cancel for any reason" type insurance? as long as we do it soon, within 14 days of our reservation.

Could we add the family reunion portion of the trip once we have plans, deposits and a reservation?

Thanks to all who can help me sort this out:):). Maureen--

If you purchase the policy online, you are given a certain time period to read the policy and cancel with a full refund. Why don't you find a policy you like, and contact the underwriter? Ask the underwriter any questions you have, and follow that up in writing. Make sure to ask the person you are writing to let you know if your summary of your phone conversation was not correct.

Most insurances that offer 'any reason' will require that you cover the full cost of the entire trip within the set time limit; for those plans you just estimate high and then later reduce the coverage amounts when you know the exact $$. You get refunded any premium difference and keep your coverage dates in place. Note tht most do not give 100% any reason coverage.

Travel Guard policies will allow you to add coverage as you make the additional deposits but you must continue to add coverage within 14 days of those deposits AND they only cover 'any reason' at 50%-70%, depending on the plan chosen. You must still cover the full cost of all arrangements.

Yes, and No, ;). We can obtain multi-trip coverage for medical and evacuation, but there is no (or minimal) coverage for cancellation, trip delay or trip interruption. To have that covered, you have to purchase individual trip coverage.
