Question of the day?Solution?

On every cruise the last night u have to put your baggage out at a set time.I think it is as early as 8 pm.I find this a real nightmare since i usually do not want to lug a carryon bag.Any solutions?other than use a carryon bag.

The last night when going to dinner it overlaps with baggage time,so usually we don't go because of this or rush like maniacs.

Even with the luggage out on time then left with same clothes until the next day, usually very late flying home.Yuk!

I even leave my deoderant, toothpaste, etc in room so i can use it.This part of a cruise is the only thing that ruins the experience for me.

It would be fine if u could put last bag out between Midnight and 8 am.:(

Many drug stores and box store offer small overnight amenities kits with a tiny toothbrush and paste, a small deo, razor... You could purchase on of those and just leave it in the room.

You could also do self disembarkation... Then you can hold onto your luggage.

We have found that the cruise lines give you 'suggested times' to have your luggage out. We have never put our luggage out in the hall until at least 10 PM, and sometimes afterwards, which makes things run a lot smoother that final evening.

A carry on is something you just can't go without on a cruise, no matter how you plan. You have to have something to put your bathroom items and sleepwear in that final morning. It has been this way since we began cruising many many years ago.

The carry on doesn't have to be large, just some sort of bag to put those last minute items in, even a large purse will work. You can always transfer liquids to the larger bags when you claim them in the terminal if you didn't provide yourself smaller amounts that can be carried on a flight. We learned long ago to pack those quart bags with all essentials just in case you have a flight problem where luggage has already been checked, and you can't retrieve it, but need to spend an extra night before getting home (happened to us once and we were prepared with important items).

To me, you are making this much more irritating then necessary (IMHO).

The only way around this would be to pack very very light and do self embarkation and carry off your own bags, that way you don't have to put them out in the hall the final morning. Best of luck! ;)

I agree completely. We never put our luggage out until we are ready to go to bed. It is always picked up. Sometimes as late at midnight or 1 am.

Your way is how we normally do this.I was hoping someone had a way around this that i had never seen before like waiting until midnight or so,then i could relax more the last night.I always have a back pack with some stuff in it,but seems to get bigger and bigger every year, especially if u buy things for gifts and the airlines with tougher restrictions, etc. The only difference that u guys have done is put your luggage out after 10pm.We usually do at 8 pm-Dinner time is 8.15-9.30 or so and a show.By then it is late.Maybe i will push it a little more and put it all out around 10-11 pm.Just trying to stretch out the cruise!:)

A plastic shopping bag will work...anything you can stuff those last, few items into!

We never put our stuff out, until we are "in" for the night....there's just too many things I still need that can't be packed early in the evening!

I think the times the cruise line sets for luggage out are guidelines--they don't really want everyone's luggage out at exactly the same time; it's taken out gradually as obviously they can't get it all out at exactly, say, 8 o'clock.

We always put our luggage out when we go to bed, which is usually midnight or later and it's always picked up. There's always plenty of other luggage sitting in the halls at this time. We do leave out our morning necessities and pack them in our carryon, then repack (if needed) anything we don't want to carry on the plane, like toiiletries, after we pick up our luggage.

I would not stress about having your luggage out exactly at the time stated. It will still be picked up!

Oh definitely push it a bit, there is absolutely no need to have your luggage out by 8:00 PM (remember those are 'suggested' times). Go to dinner, come back to your stateroom, pack your last minute items, and then put your luggage out (while in your robe lol) that's exactly what we do, along with many others. We have never had a problem one with our luggage not being picked up that final night. No sense stressing over something like this the final night, enjoy your last evening onboard.

Like many of the others we put our baggage out when we go to bed. If you do not have a carry on, what do you do with your meds., camera, cell phone, jewelery, etc.? I have things that I would not be comfortable putting in a bag that is out of my sight. We use a small bag with wheels so we don't have to tote it, but for years we used one of the free two handle canvas bags that we got from HAL. I reckon you could , if your careful , Put every thing in your bags before you go to bed and put them outside your door in the nude.:) Bill

Give yourself time to enjoy your last night on board. Get your luggage ready then go to dinner. Return to your cabin and complete the job. Like many of us on board this thread we do not put out our luggage at 8:00. Closer to 10 or 11 is the norm for us.

They work all night getting the luggage back in the hole so if you take an extra hour or two does not throw them off their routine.

If they tell you to put your luggage out by 8pm, they cannot possibly pick up all the luggage at that time, can they? I usually put mine out closer to midnight and I see lots of people doing the same. But that was not the question. The question was what to do if you do not want to have a carryon. Well I guess wear the same clothes 2 days in a row.

I think that you should not ruin a great week of cruising by agonizing over such a little thing. What is the big deal? Take a few of the cheapest zip lock bags you can find and when you are packing squeeze a little toothpaste in one, put your toothbrushes in another; if you need shampoo or anything else of that ilk do the same; take a large zip bag and put in a change of underwear/socks, etc. leave our some sleepwear and what you are going to wear the next day. In the morning after you use the toothpaste, shampoo, etc. you throw those bags away. Put on the clean clothes and underwear, you have the zip bag to put your sleepwear in. You have a zip bag to put shaving items/makeup items in, all of these things will fit in a mini-backpack; large purse; cheap light weight zip tote bag, etc.

LOOK AT THIS AS AN OPPORTUNITY TO THINK OUTSIDE OF THE BOX INSTEAD OF VIEWING IT AS A PROBLEM:D

Are you flying with no carryon at all? Not even a purse or any kind of bag? That would be a problem. Sorry for not reading your post carefully enough.

We always travel with a small (not suitcase sized) rolling carryon (sometimes two)and I usually have a purse as well. I don't see how we could travel without something to take on the plane for valuables/necessities that I don't want to put in the big bags. For instance, jewelery, medications, camera, computer...whatever you need or is valuable.

Our carryon is easy to roll and holds everything. We finish packing after we get ready for bed (usually have most of it done before dinner), adding what we wore during the evening. We open the door, and, wearing our pjs, put the bags out. In our room is only left the clothes for the next day, toilet/make-up articles needed in the morning and any valuables and medications that go in the carryon.

I leave out a plastic bag or two and put my night clothes and any toiletries I don't want on the plane in them after we dress in the morning. After reclaiming the big bags, these things are put in them before we head to the airport or hotel.

The only way I can see to have no carryon is to go to bed naked and have no valuables or other necessities you need on the plane! And even then, wouldn't you have at least toothpaste and such?

If everyone put their cases out for picking up between midnight and 8am then people would complain about being woken up by staff carting luggae along the hallways all through the night.

Also, when are the staff meant to sleep, I'm sure the next day is very busy for them getting one set of passengers off then getting the ship ready for the new occupants...

Take a small rolling holdall that can be classed as carry on, put your last night's clothes into this along with any toiletries. Wheel it off the ship next morning. Simple.;)

This may be TMI, but I reduce that last minute stress in several ways.

* I don't wait until the last day or evening to pack. I usually pack all but my yet to be worn cloths about 2 days before the end.

* The last afternoon after I'm finished with my day time activities I spend about 30 minutes packing everything else.

* Around 6ish I shower and wear to dinner what I'm going to wear off the ship the next morning.

* When I leave for dinner the only things not packed are my nightgown, undies, meds, jewelry, travel documents, disposable tooth brush, the last little bit of travel shampoo, deodorant and my brush.

* I even pack what was my carry-on that had at least 2 changes of cloths and my swimwear when I 1st got on the ship.

* My bag goes out after I return from dinner.

* I bring a large purse to travel home with (for guys a small backpack would do) and it holds my nightgown meds, jewelry, travel docs and my brush. (I throw away that final evening pair of undies) I don't have any other toiletries to pack. But I do have a book with me.

* On debarkation day, I get up, shower, dress, pack my purse, go to breakfast in the dining room for one last Eggs Benedict, go to the Casino bar for one last Bloody Mary, then sit and people watch until I'm ready to debark.

I usually have luggage tags #1 so I get off the ship whenever I want to. I grab a porter as soon as I get into the luggage area who collects our 2 bags and takes us directly to the customs line. It doesn't usually take 30 minutes after we get "dinged" off the ship until we've cleared customs.
