RSVE821 Posted June 14, 2010 #5 Share Posted June 14, 2010 Assuming they judge the ship complete (or complete enough) and correct. The suspense is driving me crazy! It seems if all went well, NCL would be shouting it at the top of their lungs after the ordeal this whole ship building process has been and delivery scheduled for tomorrow! Did it take this long to hear about the success of the first sea trials?

Now that you say it...NCL is staying kind of quiet...that does seem odd.. however.. they might be trying to build the suspense a little too...we will see.. Did it take this long to hear about the success of the first sea trials? I am with you on this. On the other hand the the glowing feedback from the prior sea trials turned out to be embarassing when the fact one engine failed surfaced. Mr. Luckytoo Posted June 14, 2010 #8 Share Posted June 14, 2010 Just curious and wondering if anyone knows but... When NCL takes over the ship does it come with everything? Such as beach towels, bedding, china, etc., Why are they taking it to Rottendam for a few days - is that where they get all the NCL stuff? Will the food, etc., be loaded on the ship there? Just wondering what comes standard on a 1 billion dollar ship? Hopefully the navigation and fire extinguishers are standard ;)

Just wondering what comes standard on a 1 billion dollar ship? Hopefully the navigation and fire extinguishers are standard ;) NCL has to provide everything such as beach towels, bedding, china, etc., A lot of it has been shipped to STX and putting it in place is what the crew onboard is doing now. There is some food onboard and more will be added in Rotterdam. If it is like the Pearl it will not be fully provisioned until it gets to the states. I fully expect some shortages on the TA. You will see the every shrinking wine list, some brands of beer or liquor in short supply, and you may run out of things like limes.

Rare mitsugirly Posted June 14, 2010 #14 Share Posted June 14, 2010 I thought it was kind of weird that we have not heard anything or seen any post about how the sea trials went either. I did read the part about them getting the "keys" to the ship tomorrow though. :D

14ersco Posted June 14, 2010 #16 Share Posted June 14, 2010 http://www.meretmarine.com/article.cfm?id=113461 (Translation by Google) The Norwegian Epic completes its second sea trials The Norwegian Epic off Saint-Nazaire, June 12 Credits: BERNARD Biger - STX FRANCE 15/06/2010 Largest cruise ship built to date in France, the Norwegian Epic (C33) returned Sunday at St. Nazaire, at the end of its second series of trials at sea (see photos in this article). The massive vessel, 329.45 meters long with a width of 40.64 meters, had left France STX yards on the night of Thursday to Friday to complete the tests in February during the first campaign, conducted between Belle Isle and Island of Yeu. These included, to test the drive at full power following a change in one of six diesel engines and after the fairing of the hull in April. In Saint-Nazaire is now activated so that the boat is ready to start Thursday. The mastodon, which reached 153,000 tons tonnage, has 2,114 cabins and suites. It will be presented for the first time June 19 in Rotterdam. Then five days later set sail from Southampton for a transatlantic inaugural takes him to New York. This is where the Norwegian Epic is baptized July 2, by American singer Reba McEntire. In October 2006 the American company Norwegian Cruise Line has ordered the ship in the program Freestyle 3. Initially, a sister ship was planned but construction of the D33 has been discontinued by the end of summer 2008 following a conflict between STX and NCL. Alone of its kind, the Norwegian Epic should cost, ultimately, about $ 1.2 billion, making it the second most expensive ocean liner in history after the Oasis of the Seas. The theoretical date of delivery was scheduled for today. But the deadlines for completion of the prototype are extremely tight. "The technical papers are being validated. The final signing actant delivery will occur between now and Thursday night, "merely states the communications director of the Building, Eric Breux. The pressure of recent days is strong because it is a prototype but also two fires on board who have delayed finishing the last few weeks. Everything must be in order for Thursday late afternoon, when the ship will leave the estuary to 18 hours for transfer to Rotterdam and Southampton. There will still STX staff and subcontractors to ensure ulitimes finish work, as each ship departure.
