Goodby Carnival . . .

Not that they care what I think, but don't see why there isn't some discount for solo cruisers on Carnival. Granted 1 person takes up the space intended for 2, but surely they aren't using resources for 2. Water, electricity, food, etc. A single supplement of 150% still means the 1 person is paying more than they would if they had someone to book with. If they require the solo cruiser to pay for 2 fares, I think they should at least kick in some OBC. Anything.

I'm a former Carnival cruiser, as you will see from my signature. I became a "Loyal Royal" after my first cruise on Royal Caribbean.

That said, they ONLY offer special deals for solo cruisers on last-minute specials. Beyond that, you're looking at 200% on their ships, just like Carnival.

I've shopped for solo cruises before and Carnival had the best deal. I'm sorry that they've stopped that policy.

Try Royal Caribbean. We are very satisfied with their product.

I don't RCL does single cruises? I don't know...when we thought my fiance was going to get laid off (and he had LOTS of money saved up so he could go on one trip and then save the rest), we thought maybe he could join us on our cruise next week...at the time prices were 609 which weren't bad, but when he went further through the booking process it said it's based on double occupancy. It was a bummer because I was excited for him to go and enjoy himself before getting back and job hunting.

LUCKILY, he was not laid off and can't go on the cruise with us...I'll miss him, but it's for a good reason...glad he still has a job :)

The sad part about the Carnival uptick in pricing is that the 1A is really built for singles. Granted there are 2 beds, but they are "bunk beds" Who wants to flip a coin to see who gets top bunk? Do they plan to put in Doubles? Increase closet space? Do away with them all together.

Thinking back to the CNBC special they filmed aboard a NCL ship, they explained that when a berth goes empty, they lose out on any of the shipboard revenue that berth would have meant - casino, spa, etc. (Of course, they miss that with me and my brood anyway, but they don't seem inclined to complain about it.;))
