Radisson Ambassador Plaza Hotel & Casino San Juan

We've never stayed there but met someone in San Juan last year who was staying there pre-cruise and said the hotel was just ok, nothing special. It is in the Condado section of San Juan, across from the Marriott Stellaris, from what I can recall there is a Starbucks and Walgreen's next door.

Anyone have any experience of this hotel? Have read reviews and they are mixed!

They have a great rate for San Juan which scares me! lol

We are booked there for our 1-23-11 sailing. We have never stayed there, but like you said, great rates & reviews are mixed but mostly for the better. It's only for one night & can't be that bad. It's close to the port as well, about 10 minutes away. It's 3-1/3 stars & a 4 out of 5 approval rating. We'll find out soon enough.

its ok. Not beach front and pool is small/on the roof. If its really cheap, go for it but otherwise go for something on the beach with a nice resort feel - this is sort of a "hotel in any city" feel.

We have stayed at the Raddison (Nov. 2009) and were very pleased. It had been recently remodeled and parts of the grounds were still under construction. We had breakfast included as well as afternoon snacks. The rooms were nicely decorated, very comfortable, quiet, and clean. There were shops and restaurants within walking distance as well as a Walgreen's. It was a block off the beach but it poured rain anyway so that didn't matter. Taxi's were readily available and we had no problems there whatsoever. We also had read some of the reviews and were a mite concerned but ended up being well pleased.

I would have to disagree and say that this hotel was more than just OK. Guess it depends on what "OK" means but it was very nice when we stayed there in Nov. 2009. There was some outside remodeling still going on but our room had recently been remodeled and was very nice and the rate was most reasonable.

Our friend stayed there in January 2009, so almost a year before it was renovated. He did not elaborate, said the accommodation was "ok", so I'm sure it's much nicer now with newly decorated rooms. As I mentioned, the accessibility to OSJ, transportation and dining/shopping is great. :)

Hi Donna - I just booked it myself through hotels.com. Got a great discount rate. I figured it's only for 1 night, we're not looking to sit on the beach (will do enough of that in other ports) and location seems good. In any case, you can always book it now - and cancel if you find something else. (No cancellation fees through hotels.com or through the hotel if you cancel within the time specified).

We just stayed there post cruise in early May. I had a gift certificate, so that's why we stayed there. I wasn't impressed. The room smelled weird, like moldy air conditioning. It was ok. There is a Walgreens, Starbucks, and Burger King near by. Other than that, we were afraid to venture out. Just didn't seem safe, in my opinion. The employees were not polite. There is a roof top pool but the chairs were very dirty and the area did not seem clean.

I wouldn't stay there again. We stayed pre-cruise in Isla Verde at the Intercontinental and that was very clean with a ton of stores and restaurants within walking distance. I felt safe around there.

Hotel must have changed a lot since November (Thanksgiving). We did not notice any of those things. Nothing wrong with our room and the management was very accommodating.
