cruisin'mama Posted August 30, 2013 #2203 Share Posted August 30, 2013 Took these sunrise pictures this morning from my backyard. We are under a flash flood warning. Yesterday parts of my city received 2 1/2 inches of rain in one hour and DID flood. I didn't get that cloud over my house, luckily !!!

jormot Posted August 31, 2013 #2205 Share Posted August 31, 2013 What type of camera does everyone use? I have a Sony RX100 but am looking to add either a Micro 4/3 or Bridge Superzoom for our upcoming alaskan cruise.
Rare pierces Posted August 31, 2013 Author #2206 Share Posted August 31, 2013 What type of camera does everyone use? I have a Sony RX100 but am looking to add either a Micro 4/3 or Bridge Superzoom for our upcoming alaskan cruise. As you have apparently come to realize, the best camera for all situations is two oe three cameas!:D I carried a P&S along with my DSLR for years and was quite happy. Recently, I bought a NEX to go along with my A77 as a second "big" camera and it has instead become my go-to camera. It has the same sensor as the DSLR (50% larger than 4/3) and is smaller than even the Nikon 1 series which has the same size sensor as you RX100. Except for Alaska where I hope to see wildlife, I have started to leave the DSLR at home and travel with the NEX and my P&S. Link to the galleriesfrom our first NEX-only cruise: http://galleries.pptphoto.com/reflection2013 If you like your Sony RX-100, you may want to check out their NEX cameras. c230k Posted August 31, 2013 #2207 Share Posted August 31, 2013 What type of camera does everyone use? I have a Sony RX100 but am looking to add either a Micro 4/3 or Bridge Superzoom for our upcoming alaskan cruise. I also have the RX100, great pocket camera. I enjoy widlife photography and do not want to carry a bunch of lenses. I now have the Panasonic FZ200 25-600mm 2.8 see review http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/panasonic-lumix-dmc-fz200 also posted on this web site http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1694983 great camera, work great for me in Alaska. Just bought the Sony HX-300 24-1200mm see review http://www.cameralabs.com/reviews/Sony_Cyber-shot_HX300/ This camera will be wonderful for super telephoto shots. Bought at Amazon.com for $448.00, though for that price and range was worth a try. In Alaska the more range the better. Hope this helps Tom

We did see some minke whales (I think) off the cruise ship. Do they bubble net feed? Vic

LiftLockCouple Posted September 1, 2013 #2214 Share Posted September 1, 2013 These are some photos taken at Quebec City, the end of July, this year. I was traveling past Quebec City by car and stopped for a quick visit. The Hotel Chateau Frontenac which dominates the skyline from the river. The Boardwalk above Lower Town with the Frontenac in the background. The reddish building on the left is the USA Consulate. The Pink building beside it is a hotel. This becomes a frozen Toboggan slide during the winter for the traditional wooden toboggans. They have gravel to slow and stop the toboggans at the end of this slide. This is set up not far from the Chateau Frontenac on the boardwalk for winter use. A park in Old Quebec City near the Chateau Frontenac. Town Square in Lower Town not far from where the cruise ships dock.

Had to recuperate with a drink at the Chateau Frontenac.
Krazy Kruizers Posted September 2, 2013 #2218 Share Posted September 2, 2013 Love the music with the balloons. It has been years since we have seen a balloon in our area. Well -- we had one on Saturday which came down and hit a house about a mile from us -- and I missed it all. Had to watch it on the news.

Steviewonder1 Posted September 4, 2013 #2220 Share Posted September 4, 2013 I have been shooting stills for years. Now with the upgrade to a Canon T4i that also shoots video, it is an opportunity to learn new skills with one camera instead of two. I did several video shoots over the last weekend at a Wine Crush in North Georgia. Lots of clips and lots of learning. This is improving my abilities prior to our next cruise in the Eastern Med. Yes it is nice to get out and use the camera, every day if possible!
