mclinns04 Posted July 7, 2010 #1 Share Posted July 7, 2010 I will be taking my friend who has fairly serious asthma on her first cruise in August. We would like to know if there is anything she should be aware of or watch out for that is related to cruising?
xxoocruiser Posted July 8, 2010 #2 Share Posted July 8, 2010 I will be taking my friend who has fairly serious asthma on her first cruise in August. We would like to know if there is anything she should be aware of or watch out for that is related to cruising? Considering that there's so many common asthma triggers such as : Dust Changes in weather (most often cold weather) Chemicals in the air or in food Exercise Mold Pollen Respiratory infections, such as the common cold Strong emotions (stress) Tobacco smoke it's really difficult to answer this question . Other than to remind her to make certain she brings all medications. Also to bring a spare inhaler if one is used.
kitty9 Posted July 8, 2010 #3 Share Posted July 8, 2010 See the doctor and get prescriptions for any emergency. I bring my nebulizer, prednisone and all inhalers. If heat and humidity trigger an attack, she will have to be extra careful.
kjunea Posted July 8, 2010 #4 Share Posted July 8, 2010 Watch the perfume shop on the ship! If odors can set her off, that will do it! I had a friend that couldn't walk into a perfume shop/candle shop, etc. and she had problems in the perfume area of the shopping zone!
mclinns04 Posted July 8, 2010 Author #5 Share Posted July 8, 2010 Thanks. I had thought about the smoke, but hadn't considered some of the others.
