hi everyone

we are going to naples next week , staying from 7am to 7pm. we are doing a 6 hours tour of pompeii and vesuvious that starts at 10.30 from the railyway station

i have heard that traffic is a night mare in naples, but i presume a tour thats due to finish at 5pm leaves us plenty of time to get back to the ship?

anyone know the easiest way to get to the railway station from the ship?

thanks in advance

When you say the tour ends at 5:00 PM where will it end?

Leave yourself plenty of time to get back.

If you are returning by train remember that trains to run behind schedule.

You will need to be back on the ship 30 minutes before.

And if you plan to take a taxi in Naples traffic can be very bad. Like most cities this varies day by day and hour by hour.

it will end back at the railway station again. we wont be travelling by rail, it will be by bus.

You would be fine if you get back at 5. It is possible to walk from the Naples train station to the port in about a half hour or you can always get a taxi or even use the local bus system.

You'll be fine even if your bus is delayed, a 7 PM departure generally means an on-board time of 6:30 PM. As Hank says, it's only about a half hour (1.5 miles) walk, or you can grab a cab.

When taking a cab in Naples, you can choose either a meter fare or a set fare. You must make the decision when entering the cab, if you don't express a preference, the meter will be used.

The set fare from Piazza Garibaldi (the central train station) to Molo Beverello (the cruise port) is Euro 10,50.

The list of taxi fares is published on the City of Naples web site here: http://www.comune.napoli.it/flex/cm/pages/ServeBLOB.php/L/EN/IDPagina/6665. You should also find it posted, in Italian and English, in every city cab. However, I always recommend printing it out (it's only two pages, really only one if you choose one language or the other) and carrying it with you, just in case. Cab drivers generally will not speak English, so having something to point to and get the message across helps.
