Texas Tillie Posted July 17, 2010 #2 Share Posted July 17, 2010 Just leave the $11/person/day "Hotel Service Charge" on your bill and it's all done for you. You can choose to "tip extra" in cash to your room steward, waiters, etc. at the end of the cruise - but this is not at all necessary and is totally at your descretion. Gotta Go Cruisin Posted July 17, 2010 #3 Share Posted July 17, 2010 I am new to this board & would appreciate the guidelines for tipping...we will be on the Princendam...........Thank you Tipping can be a very touchy subject. HAL adds $11 per day/ per passenger to your on board account (Hotel Service Charge). You may choose to adjust that amount up or down if you so choose, based on your experience and/or personal preference. It's up to you. A 15% Tip is automatically added when ordering Drinks, so that is over and above the $11 per day. We found the service generally to be very good when we sailed on the Amsterdam recently. :) Enjoy your trip.

luvs2travl Posted July 17, 2010 #6 Share Posted July 17, 2010 I am new to this board & would appreciate the guidelines for tipping...we will be on the Princendam...........Thank you Hi Chelonia, ...and welcome to Cruise Critic. If you will go to the "Holland America" page, a bit down from the top, on the right you will see a "Search This Forum" button in bold blue type. Click on it - then type in the word "Tipping" - then click on "Go". It will bring up all the many, many, MANY threads on this topic. This topic has been cussed & discussed hundreds & hundreds of times on this and the other boards. Tipping is a personal choice. Do what you feel is right for you based on past experiences or practices. I think once you do a search & read how heated and opinionated this topic can get, you'll agree to make your own decision. No one will know what you do or don't do anyway... Welcome aboard! :D
