Wi-Fi locations in Alaska ports

I just googled your questions and listed each city and a list came up. So, if you will google:

wi fi locations and list the city and state, you will find plenty of listings. It will also tell you if it is free or it costs. It seems the McDonalds restaurants have free wi fi in the cities you are going to visit.

One of the best is in Juneau and it is the Public Library that is right where the ships dock downtown. If you are lucky enough that you are on a ship that docks right next to the library and you have a balcony that faces town you can actually pick up their signal while on your balcony. If not you can go into the library and spend as much time as you want using their free wi-fi :)

If you don't have your own computer, in Juneau the library is an excellent place to use one free. You get 30 free minutes using their computer.

Besides being close to where some ship's dock, it is about a block from the Red Dog Saloon. Between a ship's docking area at base of Mt Roberts tram, Tracy's crab shack (delicious crab legs), is between the tram and the library.

In May we were fortunate that the Amsterdam was one of the ships docked at the base of the tram, near the downtown shops, and a short distance from free internet at library and the interesting Red Dog Saloon.

Sitka was the best port for free wi-fi. The city provides it for free to everyone. We just got back from the Amsterdam 14 day cruise. For a few of the other ports, here's what we found.

Ketchikan - Didn't find any free wi-fi here, but there is an internet cafe in Salmon Landing right near our ship that you could pay $6.00/hour for wi-fi.

Skagway - We had heard that the library was a great place. Not so much. There were about 14 people sitting in the back room all trying to get onto the wi-fi there with little success. The signal at the library wasn't strong enough for a big crowd.

Sitka - Anywhere in the down town area you can hook right into the free wi-fi offered by the city. They have lots of benches along the sidewalks too, so this worked out to be our best port for wi-fi.

Homer - Kept finding wi-fi networks there, but couldn't really get hooked in to any of them.

Juneau - McDonalds was a great spot on Front St. We got off the ship as soon as possible and went there for breakfast.

Anchorage - We didn't really look for any wi-fi here, but I'm sure just about any McDonalds there would also have free wi-fi.
