Switching Sign and Sail Cards

DW and I are travelling with our two teenaged daughters. Since they're both under 21 we had to book with me in a cabin with one daughter, and DW in a cabin with our other daughter. Are the sign and sail cards also used as the door key on the Zuiderdam (it wasn't on the Maasdam). If it is, can we go to the front desk and have them swapped so that the sign and sail cards will open the doors to the cabins we'll actually be occupying?

On the Vista class ships the card is for purchases to your shipboard account, getting on and off the ship (linked to a file on the ship's computer system with your photo so the security officer knows it's YOU getting on and off the ship), as well as your room key.

I don't think you can switch but someone I talked to onboard the Westerdam was able to get extra cards that were JUST room keys.

We have had to do this on other lines and had no trouble getting the keys switched (this was before we found out that it is alright to book your children in a stateroom nearby as long as parents were cruising with the children.)

We cruise in two weeks on the Ooster. My TA accidentally booked us in the stateroom that we want my parents to have (it is near the elevator) and they are booked in our stateroom (which is in a better midship location that we prefer.) TA has called HAL to change the rooms, but so far they remain the same on the computer. Our cruise is two weeks from tomorrow, so I am sure our docs have already been sent out with the wrong information. I hope we don't have any problem on the ship. It would be a pain to have to carry around a room key and a purchasing/ID key. :(

Hint: Be sure to put your stateroom number ID's on the correct luggage during embarkation so you don't have to move that as well.

Thanks for asking the question Orcrone.:)

We have the same situation with our kids and I as concerned that the front desk might frown on the request. Does anyone know how this is handled and is it a routine occurrence??? Really have no desire to have to sleep in an interior with one son as my husband sleeps with the other one in our veranda room!!

Thanks in advance!

Localady, not to worry, just tell them you want the kids and adults to have a key to both rooms, it wont be a problem :) They are used to this kind of thing.:)

At least put DH in the inside room, and you take the verandah!!;)

When we booked our cabins DW and one daughter are in the inside room, while I booked myself in the verandah. We should be able to switch, but to be on the safe side....;)

I have the same situation. I was wondering how to handle to baggage. I do not want to have to switch the bags after they are delivered to the rooms. Does anyone know how to do this?
I would just take the luggage tags that HAL sends with the documents and label the bags with the cabin number you want them to head to. That's all that the stewards look at when delivering the luggage.

Janice - As Orcrone and I mentioned (the luggage situation in my two previous post), we have switched the luggage tags several times in the past. No problem!

My TA called this afternoon to say that our docs are in...yeah! However, as suspected, the stateroom numbers are mixed up. She said to just switch luggage tags and go to the purser as soon as we board to get new cards...no problem.

Localady-

Don't worry! We've done this too. You can switch them - we usually get extra keys to the kids room so we can get in as needed too. This is a very routine occurance with HAL. I am curious though - just thought of something - we have our kids booked in their own room next door to us on the Ryndam and neither is over 21. I don't think we've been able to do this before.

Thanks for all of your reassurance on this one!:) One son in the room is 17 going on 36, I really am not worried about them. Because they required a berth for 3, they are located a few floors down.

I was actually hesitant to bring up the issue for fear of flaming....thanks for not doing that. We will play it all by ear, and pray it all works out okay.

I'm very surprised that HAL had you stay with your daughters. We've cruised with our daughters before on different lines (NCL & Carnival) which let the girls be in the room next to ours. It wasn't a problem until one daughter turned 21 - then she could go to the bars & casino and the other couldn't! I guess each line has their own rules! Hope things work out for you!

Happy sailing.......
