SusieV Posted August 18, 2011 #378 Share Posted August 18, 2011 Great review! I just had one question. The fixed menu restaurants interest us, but do they have any options for vegetarians or are you just screwed? I'm not actually any kind of vegetarian but I don't eat steak or chops or anything like that so I'm wondering if I'd have to pay the cover fee and then not get an entree! cruzlvrs Posted August 18, 2011 #379 Share Posted August 18, 2011 Hi Brian - What an excellent review. I have been glued to it. I do have a question as a few of us are going on the Oasis in a few weeks. We did make reservations at 150 CP but I did not realize that it was a fixed menu. I do not eat red meat and was wondering if there were any substitutions to the menu or what it is, it is? Thanks so much.
firsttimerSA Posted August 25, 2011 #380 Share Posted August 25, 2011 Hi Brian, Thank you so much for this - it was my most read and referenced review before our cruise last week. Much like you, we also only landed up at the MDR/Windjammer once, and if people are fortunate enough to be able to use the speciality dining options as we both were, then I think this review gives them absolutely everything that they would need to know. Take care.
BrianAlt Posted September 6, 2011 Author #381 Share Posted September 6, 2011 Brian can you explain to me how spliting the wine works. I personally don't won't to drink all that wine really going for my wife she's the foodie. We have already paid for chef's table $95 p.p. Do they take any money off what we have paid? Thanks so much for your detail review. Sorry for answering so late. They simply only charged us once and gave us each a half pour each (I think the pours were slightly more generous than that). Have a great cruise!
BrianAlt Posted September 6, 2011 Author #382 Share Posted September 6, 2011 Sorry if this has already been asked before. But are the Margaritas good? I had one on the Serenade and it was so watered down it was not very good at all. Will be on the Allure in Sept. Pretty good. If I had two in a row, I would feel the alcohol. BrianAlt Posted September 6, 2011 Author #383 Share Posted September 6, 2011 The fixed menu restaurants interest us, but do they have any options for vegetarians or are you just screwed? I'm not actually any kind of vegetarian but I don't eat steak or chops or anything like that so I'm wondering if I'd have to pay the cover fee and then not get an entree! They will definitely work with you on giving you something you can enjoy. We did make reservations at 150 CP but I did not realize that it was a fixed menu. I do not eat red meat and was wondering if there were any substitutions to the menu or what it is, it is? Thanks so much. 150 CP is a tough one. Like I said above, they will work with you. But 150 CP is a fixed menu. You should stop by when you first get on board and ask them. Perhaps they can accommodate you. I know that if they CAN they WILL. Thank you so much for this - it was my most read and referenced review before our cruise last week. Thanks much for the kind words. Glad you enjoyed. Wishing you all a wonderful cruise! Brian
fatcattravel Posted September 10, 2011 #384 Share Posted September 10, 2011 Just wanted to thank you for breaking down all of the restaurants you enjoyed. I am very interested in the Solarium dinning and I really would like to stay away from The WindJammer buffet area. I really do appreciate your review. Getting ready to make reservations for our upcoming Dec 10th cruise.

lintont Posted September 17, 2011 #386 Share Posted September 17, 2011 If you have any questions that I haven't answered, please don't hesitate to ask! Hope you all enjoy my review of the food on the Oasis of the Seas. Fantastic! This was such fun to read. We're sailing with a family group and we now realize we'll have to ditch them and try out a few of these restaurants! Thank you very much Brian. Great job. fefohood Posted November 9, 2011 #388 Share Posted November 9, 2011 Hi Brian, I can not express how I enjoyed this thread; your review was really helpful I can’t wait to be on board the Oasis on December 10th. I’ll try to post something here about food while on board. Thanks.
BrianAlt Posted November 9, 2011 Author #389 Share Posted November 9, 2011 Wonderful! It's such a great ship! Enjoy your cruise. Looking forward to mine on Allure in April
Bluegirl Posted November 10, 2011 #390 Share Posted November 10, 2011 Great read, Brian! Although the review is from last year, it is perfectly topical for me, about to sail on the Oasis (for Thanksgiving) and currently completely overwhelmed about all this big boat has to offer. It will be our family's first time on the biggest class of ship. The review also answers a lot of my questions as a so-called pescatarian (I eat fish but not any meat or fowl. I don't actually consider seafood meat). Only having seafood as an option really restricts my restaurant picks. Chef's Table, for instance, would not be appropriate. At any rate, my husband and I had planned on the MDR each night since we sail with two boys under the age of 10, but this review has convinced me to book Chops and stash the boys in Adventure Ocean on whichever night they offer the escorted-dinner option. Or else eat late, after AO opens up. And enjoy a more civilized meal "a deux"!

We were on Enchantment last month for 2 weeks. We ate at Chops 4 times (once was the wine dinner). It was wonderful! My wife had the barramundi one night. It was delicious! We were told that the halibut (my wife's favorite) wasn't very good, so barramundi it was! Barramundi with a few bites taken out of it

Jan_In_Maine Posted November 13, 2011 #395 Share Posted November 13, 2011 Just wanted to say "thank you" I had read all the information on the food lover's guide - I even printed it out. We tried Giovanni's - had the most wonderful waiter, great wine (forgot to get the name!), we went with another couple from CC and tried everyone's meal. We tried the tapa's at Vintages, they were good, but I wish I had spent more time studying the menu ... had a great glass of wine (again forgot to get the name of the wine)! DH (Ken) and I went to 150 Central Park - I wasn't sure if DH was going to enjoy it --- but he had the most wonderful time - we split the wine pairing (thanks for mentioning it) tried the cucumber martini -- wonderfully refreshing, the salts were enjoyable, dinner was great, waiter attentive, wines were good (actually liked the dessert wine the best). Ken decided that on our next cruise we need to try the chef's table (I was so surprised at how much he really enjoyed the whole experience). Thank you so much for your postings :) .. it really helped when I planned our adventure on the Oasis. Jan

barbie5401 Posted December 2, 2011 #399 Share Posted December 2, 2011 What would you suggest first making the show reservations or dinner? We are going next March and now have just started to read all there is about this ship (OASIS) thanks for your input.
tomko2 Posted December 2, 2011 #400 Share Posted December 2, 2011 What would you suggest first making the show reservations or dinner? We are going next March and now have just started to read all there is about this ship (OASIS) thanks for your input. We are going on the Allure in January and the restaurant reservations opened up at least a week ahead of the show reservations. Even then there were some adjustments. About a week after we booked the shows we received a blank email from RCL (don't know why it was blank) so I went to check things and saw that some of our show times were changed and we had conflicts. I adjusted our plans and all is well now. Hope this helps. Kathy:)
