wailea4me Posted August 4, 2010 #1 Share Posted August 4, 2010 We are doing a Western Caribbean cruise on Freedon of the Seas. Is it better to have a balcony cabin on the left or right side (don't know the nautical term) of the ship?
Garyorient Posted August 4, 2010 #2 Share Posted August 4, 2010 Try and get yourself a balcony cabin right at the very back. Bigger balconies and you won'thave such difficult decisions to make. Port or Starboard is pretty irrelevent. Some ports one way, some the other.
nursemommy7578 Posted August 4, 2010 #3 Share Posted August 4, 2010 the aft balconies were way out of our price range, so we looked for side-by-sides and took what was available. we are on the left side (port). this is our first balcony so maybe more experienced cruisers can answer better! lol
Garyorient Posted August 4, 2010 #4 Share Posted August 4, 2010 Aft balconies, within a certain grade are no different in cost from the same grade with side view. I am in an E1 on Adv OTS and irrespective of its location the E1 costs the same Same applies to all balcony grades. The grade determines the cost, not the position of the cabin within the grade. RoofingPrincess Posted August 4, 2010 #5 Share Posted August 4, 2010 It really doesn't matter whether your cabin is on the port side or the starboard side. When you're in port, they may dock the ship to the right or the left of the dock, and sometimes even back it in, so there's no knowing from port to port what will be outside your balcony door when you wake up. mutzy Posted August 4, 2010 #6 Share Posted August 4, 2010 we always go for the port side- mainly because our first cruise we docked on the port side and it was fun to sit on the balcony and watch people come and go. on the second cruise- they docked on both sides- so sometimes we saw people and sometime we saw the water- on our alaska cruise we did an aft cabin- that is the only way to go for alaska- we saw whales- because you are sailing thru a passage there is land on both sides (most of the time)- it was fun to sit and watch the land go by. the best was sitting on our deck and saw hubbard close up and personal as the captain turned the ship in circles- no crowds to fight- just our own personal balcony !! cb at sea Posted August 4, 2010 #7 Share Posted August 4, 2010 Which side you're on really doesn't matter....the ship doesn't dock in the same direction, or even the same "slip" everytime. There will be no "bad" views from any side of the ship!
