Come on you "Legendarians" ...how was it?

-The "Adult Only" pool aft....was it monitored? last time I was on her, there were tons of kids in there, and no-one cared.....

-Have they still got the drink punch cards and coffee ones? where you buy 5 and get one free for example?

-Did you attend or meet anyone that went to the Chefs' Table Event? Thanks.

The Unicorn area was pretty much a free-for-all that first day. I dont remember when they opened the "pool" - I know the mid-ship pools were open and the slide was open shortly after leaving port. I NEVER saw any kids IN the pool or the hot tub. I did watch a passenger chase some rambunxious kids off...was pretty funny. (they did it very nicely but I think it scared the kids!)

The punch cards are no longer. I asked someone at the coffee area deck 2 and they looked at me like I had been smoking crayolas.

They had the Chef' Table event on formal night 1 and the last sea night (I think) - we didnt really talk to any other passengers except for the few friends we met on CC, so I can offer no help there.

Let me again express myself - its not that I DIDNT enjoy my cruise; it was delightful. But I did not experience the high quality that I guess I shouldn't have grown accustomed to. I mean, I work hard to earn a living - just like everyone else. I think I have the right to complain about a raw lobster tail; or crappy dining service (I did ask the maitred to re-assign us - our original dining crew was horrid) And as far as the bites all over my family - whatever it was, I hope they ate well. Bugs are bugs - mosquitos - fleas - whatever. It is NOT a crisis. My bed was comfy, my towels were clean, my tv worked great and there was always ice cream. The Legend is a wonderful ship - you have to assume that this ol' girl that has been serving approx 2400 customers a week for 8 years will need a little TLC...

Not to miss - Sushi - 5pm (to 7pm I think) - deck 2 - in front of the casino. Complete with saki (for purchase) - That was my down time.

Try a shower at the gym...just take your stuff in your beach bag. DOUBLE HEADED SHOWERS....ahhhhh -

Frozen ice cream AND frozen yougurt. And on sea days (I think that was why...???) they had the full sundae bar!

Grand Marnier Souffle - dessert, final night (if you like souffle) - WOW!

Jen - she has a great wit. I didnt find her annoying at all - The captain was a little difficult to understand, but if you stopped and listened to him, he gave you the location, the direction, the weather conditions, the wave forecast...

And to think that someone, right now, is sitting on my old balcony, looking at the stars, after enjoying their first formal night dinner. Bummer...

I am sorry to say, however, that there is quite possibly a shortage of ice cream for this current class out there - My son may have sucked THAT DRY!!! (Yes, I'm the crappy mom that let him, too!)

The piano bar was closed to (unforseen circumstances) - never followed up on that?? Oh - the martini tasting shortly after SAIL OFF - down stairs, casino - I did not make it in time, but my neighbor LOVED IT!!

Sorry this is so random; I didnt get home until about 4am this morning - think I'll go to bed and conjure up a nice review tomorrow!

Now that I'm not on my phone, I can type a bit more. :) It's interesting how everything is relative and we all have different perspectives! It was a fun week and I am sad to be home and going back to work tomorrow. I am still dealing with motion sickness which doesn't affect me on the ship, but gets me after... I am sure spending the last two days driving home didn't help!

Spent Saturday night at Intercontinental. Park & Stay package works well for us and we've done that two years in a row. We did get to the port a bit later this year and had to wait in line longer. I think we got there about 12:40 and were able to go straight into our room, and by 2 p.m. I had sent a text with pictures to some friends.

We didn't have any problems with chair hogs, but we did see three kids in the adults only pool on the Cozumel day.

I did see two shirtless guys eating inside on Lido deck who were asked to go put on shirts and a guy who was in a tank for lunch in MDR being asked to go put on a shirt with sleeves.

We didn't get rained on where we were in Coz or Belize (other than it did rain on our tender ride over), and we only had a short shower on us in GC. I thought we were going to encounter tropical storm/wave/depression or something messing with our route, so not having that was nice! I was really expecting the worst.

We enjoyed the food. We ate two nights in the steakhouse, one night on Lido (that was a first for us, and it was surprisingly good), and the rest of the time in MDR. We had the best tablemates of our three cruises, so that was fun! :)

Last summer it seemed like there was a show option each night after late seating, and I prefer that. I was never ready for the 7 p.m. late seating shows. We never got to see Happy (wanted to, though!), but we saw the Fogel guy and I didn't think he was that funny-- our audience didn't seem overwhelmed with him as a whole. I did watch a movie one day and that was fun-- if they had that on my previous cruises, I had no idea about it.

Bed bugs are awful. I'm glad we didn't have any in our cabin. I work on a college campus and we have dealt with them in the residence halls and they are no fun at all. :(

Like usual, though, I came home from my cruise with all sorts of bites. I even use Off but I am just attractive to mosquitoes, I guess. They were really bad at Altun Ha. (That reminds me-- if you go to Altun Ha, wear shoes that cover your feet. I wore sandals and I regretted it. We saw a snake and then there were just a lot of bugs and walking on the uneven paths would have been easier in tennis shoes).

Grand Cayman- we just walked around and shopped.

Cozumel- taxied downtown and shopped and had lunch at Pancho's Backyard

Roatan- walked over to Mahogany Bay beach and rented a clamshell ($20) and got sunburns (even with sunscreen. did not re apply often enough!)

Belize- due to sunburns we changed our Altun Ha and River Wallace tour to the Altun Ha and city tour so we could just ride there and back in a bus. I'm glad we did-- when we saw a boat coming back, it looked packed-- like dangerously packed. Anyone on that tour?

I like Jen. I thought she wasn't as present as last time... not that it was good or bad. I just didn't hear or see her as much as last summer. I somehow managed to miss the chocolate buffet and I am mad at myself over that! Other than that, I tried things I hadn't done before and had a great time and I would do it all again (and if we don't do Alaska next, we just might!).

Looking forward to your review. We will be on the Legend next week and are getting excited.

What's the deal with the piano bar???

Thanks for the reviews! I, too, am booked on an upcoming Legend sailing with 6 of my family members so I've been reading everything I can. This is will be our first CCL cruise, so any info is of interest to us.

My mom thought she read that the Legend was refurbished or dry docked back in 2008, but that must not be correct as I've seen some comments saying she's showing signs of needing it (I know she's scheduled for early next year). I don't know where mom saw that, I assumed in a review. That was one of the reasons why we chose this ship over our NCL option, but thats ok. I understand how all that works. The other reasons for our decision far outweigh this particular point. I've watched the growing number of food-quality complaints on all lines, but not so much with CCL. In fact, I consistently read that their food is good. That was probably our main reason for choosing this line for this years family cruise. Plus, we just wanted to try something different. Oh, and Roatan..... major bonus.

Again, thanks to everyone who comes back and shares with those of us in-waiting.... we very much look forward to your comments and appreciate them.

We were on Legend from 7/25 - 8/1. Had a great time. This was our first cruise on a "Spirit" class ship. I have to admit, I like the Conquest class a little better (been on Liberty & Freedom). Don't miss Ken the Maitre D singing in the MDR, he was awesome. Hope you get a table on the deck 2 as we were on deck 3 and always went to rail and watch him sing. We stayed in cabin 8174 and did get some noise from Lido. We're not complainers but don't think we'd book that room again.

Grand Cayman - Did stingray city, was totally awesome, highly recommend this. Also did the Turtle farm & Hell. Turtle Farm was good, Hell was a waist of time.

Cozumel - Playa Mia beach, was great fun, good activities, however, a little overpriced imo unless you're going to slam drinks all day. Still a good time.

Roatan - Cameo factory & Semi Submarine Reef tour. Cameo factory was a bust but our guide was nice and knew many things about the country. Semi Submarine was cool, reminded me of snorkeling without getting wet.

Belize - Shopping in the gated area, back to the ship. Was nice to hear that Carnival advises people not to wonder off outside the gated area on their own. This is the port to do a guided planned excursion.

I agree with Marci4tony regarding Jen the CD. She was fine, very friendly and I even took a picture with her. Don't understand why she gets such bad press on the boards.

Hope you enjoy your cruise!

And IMO - Belize is my FAVORITE stop - I would not, in a heart beat, avoid venturing outside the gates. Im not sure where the "info" comes from, but its not any more dangerous than Jamaica or Costa Maya. The people of Belize are very easy going, laid back. Sure there are some that give it a bad name, but understanding the city, knowing the people - one of the best opportunities I've ever had. I am looking to purchase property there....

(We were even passed by the Prime Minister on the highway on our excursion with Major Tom)

Thanks so much for answering my questions and writing more reviews....love them!

Shame they did away with those punch cards... I know when I was on Inspiration a few weeks back they didn't have them but wasn't sure if it was fleet wide.... guess so! Regardless just so looking forward to this break and catching up on some books and sun! And the odd foo-foo drink of course....

I have a confirmed reservation for the Chefs table too so that will be interesting...review to follow of course! :)

Thank you so much for your offer. The others in my group come up with questions all the time, and since I have not yet been on a CCL ship, sometimes I don't know the answer. I really appreciate your willingness to help others out, very nice of you. I'll save the address and probably email you in a few days once I have compiled a few questions instead of pestering you daily with one at a time :D

  • 1 month later...
FUn week! A few showers but other than that, pretty good weather and smooth sailing.

I know one group lost a family member (I think heart attack?) early in the week, very sad.

The entertainment schedule was weird and the entertainment itself wasn't as good IMO to my other Legend cruise.

Food and staff were good.

We lucked out and got an extended balcony (7258) which was also 3x as long... loved that!

Sorry to hear of the death of a passenger! I have a friend who was on a cruise a few years ago and a young husband and father had a heart attack and died on the beach. She is a nurse and told me that she is aware of a lot of people who know their time is short who go on cruises to have one last fun time with their families prior to going. My DH and I love to cruise, but knowing this somehow makes cruising even more special...
