Can someone tell me if you are able take the shuttle to the port at anytime from the hotel, or do they take everyone at the same time; what time? We were planning on getting to the port as early as possible. If not, would taking a cab be better?

The shuttle/s run back and forth. Most hotels have you sign up when you check in. First come first served.

Cab will be pretty inexpensive and if you don't want to plan your trip on thier schedule, use a cab and go whenever is convenient for you. You could probably find someone to share a cab if you aren't too luggage heavy.:)
