CALMOM Posted August 25, 2010 #1 Share Posted August 25, 2010 We want to cruise to the Caribbean either in January or February. Which month is better, weather wise? How warm is the water for snorkeling? Thanks for your help
bigeagle12 Posted August 25, 2010 #2 Share Posted August 25, 2010 Both months are great .. temperatures air and water are mid 80's. We like to sail out of San Juan so we start out in warm weather. If you sail out of Florida you can have some cool days at the start and end of your cruise.
HappyHappy1 Posted August 25, 2010 #3 Share Posted August 25, 2010 Both months are great for cruising. In January you can find some weeks where the prices are lower after the Christmas rush. The prices tend to climb the end of January through April.
hoosier74 Posted August 25, 2010 #4 Share Posted August 25, 2010 We have found that the water in the USVI can be a little cool in Jan/Feb, as in after an hour or so, it's no longer super comfortable. But if you wear a wet suit, it would be fine. Also if you get out of the water and are in the shade on the beach, it might be a little cool. However, the snorkeling can be super as we have seen really big fish at this time of year. The thing that really disappointed me in the winter is the difference in the flowers...still great but not the profusion you get in the summer. You forget that it's 'winter' there too!
