SteenMason Posted August 27, 2010 #1 Share Posted August 27, 2010 HI everyone, Just starting to get a little worried about the weather for the next few weeks as we prepare for our first cruise to the Eastern Carribean leaving on September 11th. I know its hard to predict the weather 3 or 4 days in advance let alone 14, but I cant help but thinking if our curise will be impacted by a hurricane or a bad tropical storm. Im keeping my eye on possible Hurricane Fiona.
Duke95 Posted August 27, 2010 #2 Share Posted August 27, 2010 I'm certainly no expert but I would venture to guess that Fiona will either be long gone by the time you get ready to cruise or will be a once in a lifetime storm that circles through the eastern caribbean twice. Offhand, I can't think of that ever happening. You need to be concerned about two things: a wave that comes off the coast of Africa about a week prior to your cruise or a home brew storm that begins in the Caribbean and makes its way towards Florida from there. Good luck. Hurricane cruising is always exciting.
VinoTaster Posted August 27, 2010 #3 Share Posted August 27, 2010 I'm on the Sept 11th Freedom as well and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that none of these storms brewing will affect our cruise. All we can do is wait and see..

SteenMason Posted September 2, 2010 Author #7 Share Posted September 2, 2010 Now Gaston has me worried. Wish they would all take the path of Fiona. We are Flying into FLL a day early, so hopefully we wont have any problems getting to the ship. Just hope & pray the ship will be smooth sailing once we get on. OnlineMom Posted September 3, 2010 #8 Share Posted September 3, 2010 We've been storm-watching too! My family will be on the September 11 sailing of the Oasis. It looked, yesterday, like Gaston was going to be an issue but he has apparently fizzled... Here's to hoping that neither Hermine nor Igor affect our week at sea! AngelsRreal Posted September 3, 2010 #9 Share Posted September 3, 2010 We will watch.. so far so good. but sometimes when they form slow they end up big .. It seems they are lining up and in pacific also.. but lets hope they all fizzle... one week and we are there YEA>>>
Rare mitsugirly Posted September 3, 2010 #10 Share Posted September 3, 2010 I'm on the Epic on 9/11 for the eastern. Is there a website that everyone is watching (like the kind that shows radar with the movement)?
OnlineMom Posted September 3, 2010 #11 Share Posted September 3, 2010 I've been watching: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/26295161/ns/weather/ There's a drop down menu on the left that allows you to change the particular depression/storm/hurricane that you track. SteenMason Posted September 3, 2010 Author #13 Share Posted September 3, 2010 I have been using the map at www.stormpulse.com I like that place the best out of all the hurricane forecasting sites I have seen. And it looks like Gaston is fizziling out? Hopefully the one behind it will also!

Hurricane Expert Posted September 7, 2010 #15 Share Posted September 7, 2010 My friends & I are first time cruisers, sailing Sept 12 on Libery of the Seas to the Western Caribbean. We are freaking out just a bit  The only feature to watch right now are the remnants of Gaston over the Leewards. Hermine is a classic example of how quickly a tropical system can develop - from a weak disturbance a few days ago to almost a hurricane at landfall. I don't have the prettiest graphics on my website, but hopefully the most accurate forecasts.

Hi Hurricane Expert, I have checked the 10 day forcast for Ochos Rios and Grand Caymen as we will be on the Destiny 9/11 sailing into these ports on 9/13 & 9/14. It is currently showing No Sun and 60% chance of showers... Will the remnants of Gaston be there at those times? I'm feeling a bit bummed, two ports in the rain! Thanks, Rebecca

Thanks, Rebecca I pay no attention to long term forecasts. It's normal for the Caribbean Islands to have a passing shower each day this time of year. Once every several days a more organized tropical wave will give a day that can be more rainy. I wouldn't pay much attentioin to any forecast in the tropics more than 3 days out. Gaston should be past Jamaica and the Caymans by then, the question will be does it start to redevelop some in the west Carib? Too early to tell. It would be rare to see one develop there. It is still worth watching.
Hurricane Expert Posted September 11, 2010 #23 Share Posted September 11, 2010 The first disturbance that was off of the coast near the southern Windwards has weakened. Another from the Atlantic has taken its place farther north and is a concern for development.
DALSAL Posted September 15, 2010 #24 Share Posted September 15, 2010 Is it time for me to be concerned for my Sept 26th cruise to Cozumel, Grand Cayman, and Jamaica???
