nml Posted August 28, 2010 #2 Share Posted August 28, 2010 How early or how late do you like eating when on holidays? The answer will help you decide. Another consideration is the time you are schedule to leave port. If the ship always leaves around 4 or 5 pm then early seating is fine, but if you leave a few ports much later, do you want to cut your time in port short because of dinner, or have to eat elsewhere than MDR. Late dining is usually not as crowded as early dining.
paul929207 Posted August 28, 2010 #3 Share Posted August 28, 2010 It is really up to you. There is not a good time and a bad time. When do you like to eat. Do you expect to be taking all day excursions and arriving back at sailing time. Will you be getting up real early most mornings?
cb at sea Posted August 28, 2010 #4 Share Posted August 28, 2010 Pick the time closest to when you normally eat dinner at home...your tummy with thank you! Port days don't have to be "cut short" in order to eat at the early seating!
SuitCaseBears Posted August 28, 2010 #5 Share Posted August 28, 2010 We eat early at home but always pick the late seating on a cruise. First of all we're on vacation and can sleep in. We never choose excursions that leave before about 10:30 or 11 so we stay up later, hence eat later. Second, we like to come back to our cabin after being ashore and do a little work (we're both self employed and choose to work a little so we can take more vacations), take a shower, have a cocktail in the cabin and unwind. It makes dinner and any evening activities feel almost like an additional ad. Third, on cruises where there are any, we've noticed more small kids at the early seating. But for a first cruise I would still say go with what you're used to doing at home.
navybankerteacher Posted August 28, 2010 #6 Share Posted August 28, 2010 Unless you are on a very short cruise from your home town, your inner clock will have to adjust to a different meal time. One of the plusses of being on vacation is a change of pace as well as scene -- why try to fool yourself into thinking you are not doing anything different.
