We're thinking about booking Glory in Jan. 11 and were just interseted if someone could tell us a little about the ship. Looks nice online but would like to know more details. Any comments would be helpful.

We just returned from the Glory Canada cruise on Saturday. We enjoyed it. We did something a little different, booked 2 4J cabins instead of one large balcony cabin for our family of 4. We had 2 rooms at the front of the ship with obstructed windows. Very rocky out to Canada due to hurricanes but smooth on the way back. If I had known that I would have requested the Gold dining room which is midship, we were in Platinum at the back which I found rocky. Food was great, we prefer the stations (deli, fish and chips, etc) rather than Red Sail buffet for lunch. Magician show great, stage shows good, comedy show poor. Crowds and kids way more manageable and well behaved than we were led to believe by reading this Board.

We (group of 12 adults, ages 35-69, and 6 kids) did the Glory last year and were so disappointed. It was not a first cruise for any of us. We picked the Glory because of cost - straight and simple, and in our collective opinion we got what we paid for.

If I had to pick only one thing to be the deal breaker though, it would definitely be the service. For the most part, they just did not want to be there, and had no qualms about showing it. If you asked someone for assistance, they'd say okay and then never come back. If you asked for directions to somewhere on the ship, you get a blank stare and a shrug. Overall a feeling of apathy and not the vibe you look for a cruise ship.

The rest of my complaints are more personal opinion I guess. In comparison to the Royal Caribbean ships I've been on, the Glory felt sooo closed in - narrow public areas, lack of windows and light, etc.

The decor was garish and overdone.

On the positive side, the cabins were nice enough (though I prefer a sliding door to the balcony), the food was good, and the embarkation/debarkation was smooth.

In all, I wouldn't choose Carnival again unless it was that or nothing.

Not sure what specifics you want, but the Glory is a nice ship. Well, it's the only ship I've ever sailed (twice) so I guess I don't have much to compare it to... but I can say that she got me hooked on cruising!

It's a conquest class ship. As you may know lots of the Carnival ships are themed. I didn't realize it until recently but the theme of the Glory is 'colors'. I guess I never paid attention but all the public areas are based on a particular color. The "Red Sail" buffet, the "Amber Palace" the "White Heat" dance club, etc.

A lot of people like the Conquest ships but the most common complaint is the fact that you can't get from the front of the ship to the back on the 3rd and 4th floors, but I only really found myself in that position once or twice each cruise.. and sometimes you can cut through the dining room (which is what blocks the way).

She also recently went through drydock so should be nice and 'refreshed' - I know that a large movie screen was installed.

We were on Glory in May for an Eastern Caribbean cruise. It was my third Carnival Cruise and I enjoyed Glory as well as the others I've been on. This was my first cruise on the Conquest class and the largest ship I've been on. I really enjoyed it and loved the Glory and would sail on her again. The Carnival staff were all really top notch and made us feel welcome and were always pleasant and friendly. I thought the service was excellent (wait staff, cabin steward, the bartenders) and have no complaints.

I'll attach pictures to give you an idea of what it looks like.

I to have done Glory twice..back to back in 05 and again in 07. Hard to believe that ship is 7,8 yrs old already. Glory is a nice ship, it is color themed but not over the top. Carnivals ships are laid out very similar based on class, this ship is good sized but it is a bit tricky getting from front to back as indicated. I usually book my cruise by the interary first then look at the ship. We prefer to get the larger ships and newer, although it doesnt have to be brand new. This ship offers both...good itenerary with a ship that is fairly large with nice amenities. If drydocked i would expect it to be in pretty good repair pending what was done. I think you will be happy if you choose Glory.

I was on the Glory in March with my parents and my nine year old son. We were on the Lido deck in a balcony cabin. 2 cabins and the balconies open. It was the best cruise for me to date. The staff was wonderful, especially the cabin steward and out wait staff. The comedy club was my favorite and my son had a blast at camp carnival. Can't say enough good things about it.

We loved the Glory. Sailed her in consecutive years in fact! The only bad thing is she's now ported in New York so we probably won't sail her again. Nothing bad to say about her. We were on the Panarama Deck and loved that location.

Have fun.

My mom, daughter, and I are considering booking a cruise on the Glory next June to Canada/New England. We have only been on Royal Caribbean and I am trying Princess next month. Since my daughter is 2, she would be able to go to Camp Carnival, which is a plus.

For those that have been on Carnival or specifically the Glory, please pass on any tips on what to expect.

Thanks,

Beth

Love the Glory. Great decor, great service and very good food. We've been on it 3 times so of course we find it easy to navigate also. Took the in laws with us on one Glory cruise and they have only cruised RC a few times and Princess once. They were happier about everything on the Glory than any of their cruises on RC or the Princess cruise. Better and bigger rooms, better service, better shows and food was just as good. They are now Carnival converts. You can't beat the bang for your buck and specifically the Glory is a beautiful ship with a great crew.

We sailed on the Glory this summer to Canada. Had a great cruise - crew was fantastic, food really good. Our dining room staff was a bit overwhelmed - but they had stuffed a long table of 12 into their section (with 4 small kids amongst the diners) and also a table of 6, and 3 tables of 4, so they had their hands full. I booked Glory again for Feb., and may even book her again for April, (due to timing and price) so nothing "scared me off" from booking her!:D

We did the Glory to Canada this cruise. It was our second time on her, with the other being August of 2008 to the Eastern Carribean. While the Glory is in the Conquest class of ships, and thus not our favorite layout;it has a very open, stadium type lido deck (you can see plenty of pics on CCL website). That said, we still very much enjoyed both our cruises on her.

She has an excellent steak house, and still has the pool in gym, which many of her class have had removed. It is heated, with a hot tub (smokin hot) which is a great place for mom and dad to relax after dinner while the little one plays in camp. Also, now that they have added the serenity deck, it is a nice place for quit time in the morning while the little one is in camp - just right outside the camp location. Get up early, have breakfast in the dining room, and see if one of you can grab a clam shell while the other drops the little one in camp. We also liked the movies under the stars but it was a little cool, even in the hot tub.

My DS has been cruising since he was late 2's with Carnival (6.5 now, with 5 under his belt and a 6th in 2 months)and we have never had a bad camp experience; he simply loves it. He loves playing putt-putt too.

For shore excursions, we rented a car from Avis in St. John and drove up to the sea caves and beyond to drive/hike the Fundy Trail. There isn't much in town, though it is quite quaint and beautiful. In Halifax we rented a taxi tour through Halifaxtaxi and had a great drive to Peggy's Cove and a nice stop at the maple syrup factory. If the weather is nice, the walk along the waterfront is very nice. They also have a children's museum but we didn't have enough time to make it worth while to check out.

Hope that helps.

I am not allowed to sit in the sun due a medical condition.

By looking at the photos around the pool, doesn't look like there's any shade.

I guess some of those pictures are a little misleading. You will be able to find shaded areas to sit in.

Some of those pictures are from Panorama Deck 10 looking down to the Lido Deck (#9) and the pool areas. On Lido Deck #9, there really is no shade in the stadium seating area around the Turquoise pool, water slide and big screen. You will find plenty of shade on the Lido Deck along either side of the ship near the windows. There are loungers in addition to tables and chairs.

On Panorama Deck 10, there are loungers that are shaded on either side of the ship towards the back, under the stairs going up to the Spa Deck (#11), which are near where the "whale tail" or funnel is.

I'm attaching a picture of the Azure Pool on Lido Deck #9 (it's at the back of the ship). I took this picture from Deck 10. In the picture you may be able to make out where there is shade (and loungers in the shade), but still near the pool.

I hope this helps.
