Fare increase september 8

Received an email from Silversea advising 2011 fare increases on select voyages will increase on September 8. Any one else received it?

In regards to fee increase, I believe this is a marketing strategy they take. I was hoping to sign up before our next cruise but it doesn’t work that way. If you plan on waiting until you’re on the ship to book your next cruise, it’s too late the discounts have been adjusted so the addition 5% is gone. It’s all a joke :D

If you want to reserve now and are holding reservations on a cruise in the very near future, you can ask SS whether they will give you the additional 5% once you're on board your upcoming cruise. I did that a while back and they accommodated me.

I called Silversea twice yesterday and was told by two different representatives that the prices will change September.

The last several times (through the last year) that Silversea had price increases, we had been notified by e-mail every time. The increases had usually been from 60% discount to 55% discount for some voyages, and from 55% discount to 50% discount for a few voyages (those which already had one fare increase before). Sometimes, they took off the included air.

From what we can tell, the distribution of per diem fares (depending on geographic location and time of year among other things) this year remains in the ballpark of what it was in 2007. In other words, there has been practically no increase through the last three years with the ongoing economic tsunami. (In comparison, fares at Oceania and lately Azamara have increased a lot).

Rather painfully, we ordinary cats with limited means have already paid for our upcoming voyage on the newbuild Spirit some weeks ago, so it looks like we will be going, unless something unusual pops up. We intend to write a full report some time in December, after the fact. To keep anonymity (especially since some "fellow passengers" may not like cats), we will only disclose the voyage we are going to be on well after we return home.

Certainly respect your anonymity -- however, keep in mind that cats sometimes recognize other cats;)

In keeping with this subject of this thread, we will take our first SS cruise in November when we will have the opportunity to book another cruise on board if we find SS to our liking (we already have an itinerary in mind). Debating whether to book prior to the increase - but, also prior to knowing whether Silversea will be the right fit. It sounds like increases may be around 5%. Lots to think about this weekend.

Well, it is usually 5% less discount on the brochure rate, which translates into more than 10% additional in what you actually pay. For example, you pay 45 instead of 40%, or 50 instead of 45% of the brochure (nominal fake) rate .. meow!

wow!!! I wish SS luck selling cabins at this level of price increase.....

we have been looking at a few of these cruises, so we know that there are lots of cabins left to choose from...but they still increase the asking price a bunch......interesting strategy.....
