Question for smokers only...NCL, Princess or HAL the best for smokers?

Hi there, I am thinking of taking my mother on a cruise in the spring and have a question for the smokers out there. I do not smoke so I have never paid much attention to the areas in which you can smoke and it's never been an issue on any of my cruises...that is why I am asking that only the smokers reply (don't want this being a thread on the merits of smoking).

I am assuming I will love HAL after our cruise in December so I have only 3 lines that I am considering for our cruise. NCL, Princess and HAL. I realize Celebrity is the most non-smoking (if I am correct!) but it would not suit my mom.

So...have any of your smokers sailed on all 3 lines or even 2 of them to compare? I do alot of research before each cruise and land vacation and have never been on a bad vacation! I really don't get the people who complain later about smoking or non smoking and I don't want to be one of them!

Thanks!

I'm a heavyish smoker and have sailed both NCL and Princess (balcony cabins). I've no issues with their policy (except for NCL's non-smoking cigar lounge!)

I smoke small cigars (and cigarettes when they are not allowed) and can honestly say that I've not had any issues - I am always careful to follow the rules.

Recently we were on the Promenade deck having a quiet stogie when someone who was walking past asked us what brand they were 'cos he liked the smell!

Jim, where did you find this statement? I cannot find it anywhere. If it is true I would comply.

NOT NCL, because there can be alot of hostility and nasty, mean personal; comments!!! smokers NOT welcome!!!! stay off!!!!

You must be a non-smoker trying to keep a smoker off because I have never encountered any hostility on an NCL cruise (just from NCL non-smokers on CC)

My traveling companion for most cruises (my mom!) is a smoker, and she has no problem whatsoever with NCL. In fact, on the first day of the cruise she gets an ashtray from the pool deck, and brings it back to the room...the stewards keep it clean and empty for her all week long!

(I am not a smoker...therefore, we get a balcony so she can enjoy and not irritate me...! But if she wanted to smoke in the cabin, it is permitted.)

I'm with Steve. I do not see why NCL turned their cigar bars into non-smoking areas. Floored us the last trip on the Jewel. We had enjoyed a drink and a smoke there several times.:(

They only did that on the Jewel because they forgot to put doors on it. Cigar bars on all the other ships are open and not smoke free.

The only rude people on NCL I personally have experienced are the non-smokers. They continue to come to the "smoking areas" and complain. This happens every cruise at least 5 or 6 times. I just suggest to them that they follow the NCL smoking rules which are clearly marked. I always, always when I sit down in the casino ask the person next to me if it is all right with them if I smoke. If it is then I don't, most times they say well I am a non-smoker, but go ahead and I always say thank you, but if it bothers you just tell me and I will put it out. Another reason for NCL is the cruises are a blast! Freestyle is the only way to go.

And the Sun too. It is open. It was odd to see CIGAR BAR sign but smoking not permitted. It is actually open to another bar where we played trivia, of which the name escapes me.

I was just thinking about the newer ships with stand alone cigar bars. I really liked the cigar area on the Sun

That would be the Windjammer - Got to love the picture of the place on NCL.com with two guys enjoying cigars.

Seems a little weird...cigarette smoking allowed inside cabin but no cigar smoking on balcony...hmmm. Booked an aft suite and will see which way the smoke goes. If it blows out to sea I will smoke. If it blows port, starboard or up I won't...seems fair enough?...(cigars that is).

That statement about no cigar smoking on balconies was from the question and answer section of NCL.com. I have seen a few incorrect answers there. There is no mention of cigar smoking on balconies being prohibited in the FAQ section of NCL.com. I will have to ask the question while onboard the Dawn in a few weeks.
