LOLALOT!

Could be that...

I should have said I was from Dallas, instead of a real, working ranch outside of Houston!

During my first trip to Paris (many years ago:p), the TV show Dallas was a huge hit in France. When I would say I was from Dallas, people would get really excited and ask me if I knew J.R ( in French, prounounced "jee-air":D) and how many oil wells I owned. After a while, I would start to say I did know him and that we only owned a few oil wells. That seemed to make them very happy, lol.

I got a lot of invitations to dinner and parties when I would say I was Texan. Of course, I was young, single, and cute enough back in the day. :oNow I don't think I'd get quite the same reaction. Nevertheless, I love the French!

What I have seen is that, and this is not fact based - just casual observation, when someone with a low post count comes on with something "borderline" or beyond, that those with higher counts tend to chime in negatively. When someone with a higher post count does the same, it is often those with lower counts on the attack.

There are plenty of exceptions!

Tom

You're on the money with this observation too. Wonder why this is the case though?

No -- this Goliath prefers to take on, not David but, the Kraken (Carnival) --- just kidding! Sorry, I just watched Clash of the Titans (the new one) the night before we left last weekend, though I don't possess the head of Medusa to pull off such a gargantuan feat! :D

Don't let your 200 or so post count dissuade you from keeping at it (I don't think you will), as ALL OF US on here at one time were (gasp) FIRST TIME posters! :o

Tom

I'm so not taking anything personally, and trying my darndest not to be a sarcastic nitwit with my responses. :-D

I don't really know if I'd rather be compared to David (of Goliath fame) or the Krakken. Have to think about that one a bit.

Happy cruising and posting to all!

I understand your feeling about the situation.....but there is NO WAY I would waste 10 minutes of my vacation time arguing at the purser's desk or anywhere else over such a thing.

I would simply let them send their fan up to my room and carry on !

Life is too short....let alone vacation time !!!

As I stated somewhere in the previous 100+ posts... there had been events and circumstances over time leading me to that point (we are all not much more than the sum of our experiences). It was more principle than anything else. Of course I knew that their fan would likely serve as an ample substitute to our own, but it was not just about the fan. If it was JUST about the fan, then I agree - yes, it could be seen as much ado about nothing!

We are Platinum on Carnival and as I understand the perks that go along with each level, but with some of the Platinum and Milestone cruisers, they can carry things a bit to far in situations.

This statment is not directed toward the OP in general.

Some feel just because they hold a certain status with a cruiseline that means that they somewhat own the cruiseline or ship in question, in which in most situations they either make a fool out of themselves or irritate a lower status cruiser to the point of starting some type of confortation with certian remarks that should be kept to themselves.

One of the perks is priority boarding and as far as I'm concerned it's useless as I have before becoming Platinum used this and boarded the ship before I was supposed to on several occasions, just as a lot of others have done.

The same goes for Platinum or Milestone lines at the purser desk or other places throughout the ship with other's with lower status using the services.

If the cruiselines aren't gonna keep all the so called perks soley for those who are suppose to receive them, then what's the point in having the status, just do away with the perks and the different status and treat every passenger the same with every service. JMO

Hey Tom, not to steal the thread, but how was the aft wrap on the Destiny?

When compared to the Dream aft wraps, GREAT. When compared to the Conquest class corners, virtually identical. Compared to Spirit class wraps, well... ;)

There seemed to be a bit more overhang on this deck 6 vs. the deck 6 on Conquest class ship, though the size of the balcony was very similar. For whatever reason, when they were washing the balconies or in the case of even minor sprinkles, it seemed that water collected (and stayed for the most part) on our balcony. A couple of times walking out there in the dark yielded WET socks.

Yes - what is worse than perks which are advertised (whether considered to be ample or not)? Answer: Perks which are not followed through on!

On the Destiny we did receive priority embarkation, bypassing some long lines... as well as our stateroom treats, our stationery, our escort to the front of the tender line, prompt and free laundry service. So in that regard, we did indeed receive what was promised (better than on a couple of cruises -- one in particular -- where we received NOTHING.. even after calling on the 1st and 2nd day of the cruise to guest relations to inform them:rolleyes:)!

It would be nice to have a SPECIAL # for room service so that one does not have to stay on hold 15-20 minutes before they speak to a person... or an upgraded room service menu (or full breakfast) -- you know, the kinds of things which should be offered to suite guests to begin with, but are absent. Perhaps these would be good Milestone perks (easy for me to say, I know). ;)

Hey guys how are ya? We will be taking a fan on our b2b on the Miracle Nov 27! ...

Hi guys! A B-2-B on the Miracle should be a GREAT time! Nice ship, and a nice itinerary (X2)!!

...Thanks Tom for educating Carnival personel!

Jerry

My guess is that they took nothing away from the situation which would be considered educational.. ;)

We will sail with you guys again some day - having already crossed paths on two different ships!!

Take care,

Tom

Thanks, one minor complaint I had about 6492 on the Dream was the ash. Couple of days, there was ash on the balcony deck (I wondered why the cabin Steward had left a folded bath mat inside the door and a hand towel over the handle, but soon figured it out;) Seemed to only be an issue when in port and the wind blew the wrong way.

I noticed that as well from time to time on deck 7, and less so on Conquest class ships. I don't recall having that problem on deck 4 (Spirit class) but perhaps that was due to the almost total overhang.

And I agree it would be so much a better room (grammar:confused:) if it were a suite! Still have to try one on the Spirit class.

I intend to bring my fan. There was the whole drama about fans a couple months ago and I thought it had all been worked out. I see I thought wrong. It states on Carnivals website that fans are allowed unless they are thought to pose a hazard. I am going to print up a page and tape it to my fan that states Medical Necessity. The fan went with me on my last cruise and was allowed with no issues. Long before all this brewhaha. It will be going with me again. I am taking a back up just in case. I bought a battery operated fan, at the suggestion of folks here on CC and it will be packed in my checked luggage as well.

I only have 4 more days to see which one they allow. I will try to post when I get onboard to let yall know.

I suggest that you have medical information proving that i.e. Dr's note indicating that it is a medical necessity. It seems to me a bit childish to use a lame excuse just to get your way.

I know, I can get a Dr's note that I need a particular brand of vodka so I can bring it onbaord and circumvent the rules .....

So I am going to play Devil's advocate here. I have read the rule, and nowhere does it say "Fans ARE allowed..."

It DOES, however state... "Electrical devices such as fans, power strips, multi plug box outlets/adaptors, and extension cords will be removed if determined to pose a hazard and returned the last day of the cruise prior to debark." I get the feeling that the cruise line reserves the right to make the determination of a hazard. Nowhere does it say "Fans will be allowed if the passenger determines it to be safe."

I would have to say this statement leans more towards fans more likely being forbidden than allowed.

Actually, it has nothing to do with the item in question. They fall back on too many things plugged in (actually the POTENTIAL to plug things in)

When I lost an extension cord (new) which we wanted to watch movies on our laptop near the bed, the excuse was:

We had the POTENTIAL to be able to plug in 3 items whether that was our plan or not. They didn't care what the 3 items were, just that the extension cord made it POSSIBLE for us to do it.

We lost our little electrical fan, not because for the fan itself but because we MIGHT plug the fan in with something else at the same time and overload a circuit.

Everyone keeps quoting the posted rules when in fact the actual reason they disallow any particular item is within this fire prevention/overload circuit clause.

It took them 2 weeks to revamp the contraband list and everyone wondered why it took so long. It took that long because they had to find just the right words to appear cut and dry, when in fact it comes down to one thing.....it's their boat, their rules, inconsistent at best.

Properly designed and functioning circuity would include breakers which trip in case of overload or shorts.

However, things are not always designed, installed, maintained, or manufactured "properly"... plus: Stuff Happens.

Having said that, I don't recall any tales of faulty or overloaded circuits causing fires on cruise ships. I have read multiple tales of fires due to combustibles being too close to various sources of heat. Perhaps they should ban linens, plastics, lighters, the list goes on and on. Oh, that's right, they can take my CORKSCREW, but let me board with a LIGHTER (when "the greatest risk to a ship is FIRE"... makes perfect sense to me)!

HOUSEHOLD APPLIANCES is an umbrella term for virtually ANYTHING used in a home which operates (presumably) thanks to electricity. Fortunately, Carnival did give a little more direction here where FANS, POWER STRIPS, and EXTENSION CORDS are concerned. No, it does not state that the passenger's opinion that the item is not hazardous is all that's needed to bring it on board... that would be ridiculous. Most reasonable people would take that as meaning that in the opinion of Carnival something is potentially hazardous (really ANYTHING is potentially hazardous, usually it takes some stupid human tricks to bring about)! I trust that such an evaluation is not something they would delegate to a luggage handler - but rather a person in a "safety capacity" on the ship... someone experienced with electrical items. Yes, that is what I "trust". Is it what I believe occurs? In a few cases, perhaps. In mine, and a majority of others, I would say that it is some low paid screener using his own judgement with little (well thought out) direction.

Once my fan was "evaluated as to its safety" it was returned. That, to me, implies that the initial "evaluation" was either wrong, or (more likely) NON-EXISTENT.

All I ask from Carnival is that they live up to their printed word. Don't have a guest services rep tell me I am wrong, when indeed it is their broken system which is wrong (if we are to believe that their written word is their bond).
