Rare jimbo5544 Posted September 20, 2010 #26 Share Posted September 20, 2010 AHHA! OK -Here is the problem - I thought we were talking about GLASS glasses for DOD. Now I get it. Question - Can you get (steal) one of those GLASS Carnival glasses? sorry for going off-topic Sail off they are littered around the deck, never really understood why (they are paying for the glass.....well plastic). Pick one up.

Question - Can you get (steal) one of those GLASS Carnival glasses? sorry for going off-topic I don't think they use real glass for the same reasons they have alumminum beer bottles. But I'm not sure 100%. Btw I wouldn't try "stealing" any thing.... maybe just ask??

Lady_Jag Posted September 20, 2010 #29 Share Posted September 20, 2010 If you order one of the "Carnival Classics" drinks, take your receipt to the casino cashier for free $5 game play. You can request a specific consistency (ooey-gooey, medium, or firm/flan-like) when you order the warm chocolate melting cake in the MDR. Free cards from the purser's desk is only while supplies last. After that, you can buy them from the casino for $1/deck. If you don't get success ordering room service over the phone (e.g., they tell you you can't order lunch during breakfast hours or that there will be an hour+ wait), place your order from the TV in your cabin. Just be sure to look over all the options like 'light mayo," "untoasted," and "no mustard" carefully. Oh! And Carnival serves DOD in PLASTIC cups that resemble glass. Also look for the plastic Whale Tail drink container and monkey head coconute container. Both can be used as banks afterwards, and the Whale Tail container can be purchased separately (empty). wantocruisemore Posted September 20, 2010 #32 Share Posted September 20, 2010 When I cruised in the 80s ... now those were made of glass and impressive on Carnival. I remember them strangely, when so much else I barely remember. I still have my old glass Carnival glasses from the DOD. They used a different style each day. Our favorite is the mason jar design with a handle and of course the Carnival insigna. We cruised in 1996 and that's when we got them. And another tidbit, they actually hold up. We use the mason jar ones almost every weekend. They are washed in the dishwasher every week and they still have all the logos etc. They're our traditional container that my husband puts his gin and lemonade in while grilling.:p My husband said that is likely going to be the biggest disappointment with the upcoming cruise. I think he had planned to bring home a set and then heard they no longer have them.

These were like tall hurricane glass glasses, very nice with a big Carnival logo on them. Did someone already mention the free espresso and capachino in the dining room. I often have this at least once during a cruise. both the purser's desk and the casino both have hole punches to hang your card around your neck. People go to the shopping talks to find out which shops are giving kickbacks so they know to avoid these shops ... except for the free stuff. Iv gotten the free tanzinite earnings a couple of times from tanzinite intl, not bad. Most people sit in the middle to the front because they know the person giving the talk will throw out free stuff during the talk.

Question - Can you get (steal) one of those GLASS Carnival glasses? sorry for going off-topic I am giving away a secret nobody KNOWS. If you MUST have one of those cheesy plastic souvenir DOD cups on day one...are you listening??? Be one of the first to your muster station and carry the STUPID boxy 'life preserver' without dragging the ribbon ties as you proceed to your MS. This will have you as one of the last to LEAVE the MS! Just grab any of the empty plastic cups on your way out of the drill. Trust me, most people do not want those cups. If the folks who left the cups in the hallway wanted them, they would have picked them up. Remember no food or drink is allowed at the MS, so everyone stows the cups in the hallway. Really, do you want to wash them while on vacation??? I always threw mine away.
GlendaleCruiser Posted October 4, 2010 #36 Share Posted October 4, 2010 We found this our first night exploring! My son and his wife said 'well, at least they got one thing right on cruise critic!' ;) We took some beautiful photographs from that private deck. How cynical. If I only found one thing on CC to be correct I wouldn't bother to read it. I've found hundreds of tips and ideas.

brown_eyedgal Posted October 4, 2010 #38 Share Posted October 4, 2010 LOL...the tip about bringing lots on small bills. We did that on our first cruise (got a tip from here) and my husband got jumped on by what we thought was a drug sniffing dog. Nope. It was a money sniffing dog. We didn't bring an insane amount of $, but my husband was planning on gambling a bit. They kept asking us how much money we had and that there was a limit. It was pretty funny when they counted all those ones....LOL
Koval Posted October 4, 2010 #39 Share Posted October 4, 2010 Need a deck of cards or another Carnival pen? Don't buy them from the Casino or gift shop, just ask at the cust. service desk...
