If you Google "Sydney Cape Breton car rental" you will get a list of rental companies and a map. Some of them will bring the car to the pier for you.

Where so the ships dock in Sydney, Charlottetown and Halifax? Trying to find the rental office closest to the pier.

In all three ports the ship docks downtown. If you do a search in the Ports section - Canada for Halifax and rental cars you will find many previous posts. You can walk to the Westin Hotel which has a car rental agency. Enterprise will deliver a car to the dock.

Wife and I rented a car in Charlottrtown from Enterprise, they picked us up at the dock and took us to the rental car office. In and out in about 15 minutes. Same when we got back - no problem.

are you doing the Costa NYC 10/13? I just booked this as R&R for my husband and son - don't know anything about what they can do in ports. Any advice?

We just returned our car in Sydney NS less than one hour ago. We are here today on Eurodam.

 

We rented from budget and they picked us up from the cruise terminal, but when we came back from Forteresse Louisbourg, they were closed (today is a Sunday). We took a taxi for $6. The car intermediate was $38 for the day with 200 km included, and we only drove 78 km round trip to Louisbourg.

This time we rented cars for every single port we could (Bar Harbor none were close and didn't feel the need for one in Boston). We're tired of paying the excursion fees and for three it really adds up. Now we can see what we want to see and on our own time. Here's where we went:

 

Staying Montreal two days -- rented from Hertz for one-way to Quebec

Halifax: Hertz at Marriott Hotel

Sydney: Enterprise

Prince Edward: Enterprise

Newport: Hertz (only if we decide to go to Galilee).

 

Hope this helps. We rented cars in several ports in Hawaii and just loved it.
