AstroExeter Posted October 8, 2010 #1 Share Posted October 8, 2010 Hi all, We will be arriving in NY (QM2) on the 25th October and need to get a train to Mystic. I know Amtrack have a service there but what is the best way to the station from Brooklyn? Also, we need to store some luggage in NY as we are sailing back on 1st Nov and don't want to drag all our luggage to Connecticut. Any ideas? njhorseman Posted October 9, 2010 #2 Share Posted October 9, 2010 Use a taxi or car service to get from the Brooklyn cruise terminal to the railroad station. For luggage storage, use Schwartz Travel in Manhattan. http://www.schwartztravel.com/
138east Posted October 9, 2010 #3 Share Posted October 9, 2010 Be sure to price out the luggage storage. It could be expensive to leave it for a week. If you take it with you, you can get red cap assistance at Penn Station but probably not at Mystic. I don't think all trains stop at Mystic. However, New London is very close and all the trains stop there.
Underwatr Posted October 9, 2010 #4 Share Posted October 9, 2010 Cunard offers luggage storage for stiuations like yours. IIRC it was on the order of $60/bag.
Betsy's Mom Posted October 9, 2010 #5 Share Posted October 9, 2010 Cunard will usually hold your baggage for your return trip. B.
GTJ Posted October 9, 2010 #6 Share Posted October 9, 2010 Amtrak may well be able to store your bags at Penn Station upon presentation of your railroad ticket. You can check in advance by calling 800-USA-RAIL (but even if you don't get a positive answer on the telephone, it may be possible to deal directly with the baggage agent at Penn Station, and if need by, provide a suitable tip to him or her). As previously stated here, there are more trains stopping at New London than at Mystic. If need be, you may want to consider using such a train, and then transfer to South East Area Transit bus route 108 to Mystic Village. The bus boards just outside the railroad station in New London. Check the schedules here. http://www.seatbus.com/schedules.html Also, Bonanza Bus Lines operates two round-trips daily between New York and Mystic. You can check those schedules here. http://www.peterpanbus.com
AstroExeter Posted October 14, 2010 Author #7 Share Posted October 14, 2010 Thanks for the advice all! We will indeed be travelling to New London where our son will pick us up. I'll check out Cunard storage as I don't want to drag all the formal gear to Mystic!
