Hi folks,

How do you all feel about a ship going from Florida to Bermuda. There are many of use here in Florida who would love it instead of flying to New Jersey or Baltimore. I am just as asking this because I know the powers to be do moniter this website.

Let's here your thoughts.

It would interesting to see how the Government of Bermuda would react to this. It seems as if they very tightly control the number of port visitation days that ships can make. It seems they also try to allocate it evenly across the cruise lines.

As far as a 7 day cruise making stops at Bermuda, many RCI posters, myself included, have begged and pleaded for RCI to give us a 7 day cruise to Bermuda from New York to no avail. They seem to think that you can just go on the Celebrity Summit for 7 days instead. Guess what? I like the RCI product better.

Maybe you can have more success with getting a cruise from Florida.

I think I saw a thread that said the distance from Florida to Bermuda is actually further than from Baltimore and New York. Could be a deciding cost factor.

Here is a recent thread on this. http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1279339&highlight=florida+bermuda

We would love a 7 night to Hamilton and St. Georges as in times past but RCL no longer has the smaller ships that can get in the cuts there. The Dockyard is hardly worth it for us to cruise to Bermuda on RCL. Seriously considering Holland American but dread the trip to NYC.:(

Would love it too!!!!

Actually I believe it was the MSC Poesia, they did a 7 nighter from Ft. Lauderdale to Bermuda, and I couldn't make it because of work, but if RCCL offers it, I would take it in a heartbeat.

I'm getting tired of the same old western/eastern caribbean ports anyways

If RCI did do a PC to Bermuda cruise (about 850 NM as opposed to 670 NM from NY) the probable itinerary would be sailing Sunday afternoon, at sea Monday and Tuesday, docked at the Dockyards Wednesday morning through Thursday afternoon, at sea Friday and Saturday and arriving back at PC Sunday morning. It would be similar to the five night itineraries out of Bayonne but with two extra sea days.

They could propably get to Bermuda by Tuesday evening but I doubt they would dock in the evening, besides the cruise line would want to keep the casino and shops open as much as they can since they would need to be closed while in port.

While I would like that itin, specially with the 4 sea days on a 7 night cruise, I think you will find a large group of cruisers would think that's too many sea days. Sure would help with just choosing between East or West Caribbean from the Florida ports.

When you factor in the cost of fuel it makes no sense from a financial perspective for Royal to ever do this. While it may be interesting to discuss it's never going to happen.

I think you are right Anthony. There were occasional cruises between Florida and Bermuda in the past, but I suspect that the results didn't justify continuing or expanding the practice. As much as we enjoy Bermuda and I was very impressed with the improvements made to the Dockyard when we were there last year, I think that Bermuda's appeal is still very much concentrated to the Northeast and those cruisers are pretty well served by Boston, New York and other northeast ports. There is also the problem of just how many ships Bermuda is willing to allow to visit the island and unless someone could demonstrate to RCI or other cruiselines that the revenue is there there is not any incentive to use up a docking permit from the Bermuda government on an itinerary that isn't as profitable as some others. Factor in the fuel costs, relatively short cruise season, lost onboard revenue when the ship is in port and the ratio of sea days vs days in port which might deter some people, it may serve as a good topic for debate but not one likely to come to fruition any time soon.:)
