marci22 Posted October 25, 2010 #26 Share Posted October 25, 2010 Well, I am looking forward to this review as it seems that it will have a different perspective from what I have read on these boards so far. I would be interested as well.
marci22 Posted October 25, 2010 #27 Share Posted October 25, 2010 We were on the Oasis on September 25th. Great experience except for chops dining. Several people have posted similarly. What was the problem?
Mewissy Posted October 25, 2010 #28 Share Posted October 25, 2010 and I completely agree with the Chops comment. This was our fourth cruise and each time we eat in at least one specialty dining option. I usually prefer Portofino's, but since there wasn't one we went with Chops. My actual entree (the petite filet) was delicious. Everything else, from service to sides was mediocre. We arrived a few minutes early for our reservation and were seated immediately. I think it might have taken a good 15 minutes before anyone visited our table. Then, no one got us drinks. Maybe a half an hour after arriving they finally took our order. And, when all the food came out, I think half of our sides were missing. They are supposed to be family style sides for a few people to share and 3 or 4 of the ones we ordered never came out. (We had a party of 9). Every other time we at in specialty dining, the service was as phenomenal as the food. This time, we were sorely disappointed. Oh, and everyone is right about the casino. During the day when it was closed, people would go down there to smoke. The smell was disgusting. On the last night, it was so bad I was coughing just walking around. jillyfish Posted October 25, 2010 #29 Share Posted October 25, 2010 Great fun on my 20th Anniversary trip on Oasis. My Tips and comments. 3] Food and service were great, did my time never waited more than 3or4 minutes for table no matter when we went. Only saw a line once or twice to get in. Greg Did you just show up for My Time Dining or did you make a reservation each night?
The Flying Pirate Posted October 25, 2010 #30 Share Posted October 25, 2010 Glad you had a great cruise, sorry about your phone. I just got the Vibrant and love it. But the good news is it can be replaced, it just cuts into the next cruise fund....

thedude555 Posted October 25, 2010 #32 Share Posted October 25, 2010 Just show up...only made reservations first night. Always ordered 2 aps or 1 salad and one ap. dinner was almost always very good and some of the only complaints I heard on board were about the specialty dining. Good luck! thedude555 Posted October 25, 2010 #33 Share Posted October 25, 2010 Now that I think of it line was ALWAYS shorter if you didn't have reservations than if you did oddly enough.

That is interesting, isn't it. Thanks for the info!! Glad you enjoyed your cruise. :)
puggylicious Posted October 25, 2010 #35 Share Posted October 25, 2010 We were on the Oasis on September 25th. Great experience except for chops dining.Going on the Allure on January 30th. I've got to agree with you about Chops. We just got off the Oasis on Saturday and we had dinner in Chops one night and were very disappointed. The server seemed bothered that we didn't order wine. Then he tried to sell us a cookbook. And the worst part was that they couldn't cook the steaks properly. We definitely won't go there again. DawnCt Posted October 25, 2010 #36 Share Posted October 25, 2010 The complaints about Chops seem consistent. I booked it for our first night. I am thinking I should cancel. The up front tips include the cabin steward?
Ocean Boy Posted October 25, 2010 #37 Share Posted October 25, 2010 The complaints about Chops seem consistent. I booked it for our first night. I am thinking I should cancel. The up front tips include the cabin steward? They include the people that you would typically tip if you did not pay ahead.... waiter, assistant waiter, probably head waiter, and cabin steward. loman Posted October 25, 2010 #38 Share Posted October 25, 2010 I was on about a month ago, windjammer packed in the morning after 9 am ,but other than that , i didnt feel that the ship was crowded. It was 5600 pax i believe with 2100 crew. Food and service in the dining room was great. I seem to be one of the very few that likes RC food. I dont like the coffee though. Oasis could very well be the only ship we sail on going forward. We like it that much, and we have been on voyager , freedom and radiance class. Oasis is over the top for us. Cheers
DawnCt Posted October 25, 2010 #39 Share Posted October 25, 2010 I am definitely canceling Chops. While I am sitting here, reading all these great posts, I got an email saying that we were able to book the Chef's Table. I hope that's a good thing! ;)
Wisdom Posted November 1, 2010 #40 Share Posted November 1, 2010 Does the zipline cost extra? Going on Oasis in March.
kathyemma Posted November 1, 2010 #41 Share Posted November 1, 2010 First off, I am glad the casino is smoky. I love to gamble but I suck at it and I just quit smoking. So guess I am going to stay away (and safe money). I have sailed with royal, many, many times - NEVER been to any pay restaurant. We are sailing on Oasis for Thanksgiving and were planning on taking advantage of the coupon for Chops. We booked it for the first night. Part of me is thinking of changing restaurants but the other part of me know that right before our sailing - a lot of the crew is leaving for Allure. Kind of hoping for new staff at Chops. What do you think? Should I try another restaurant or hope for better staff at Chops? Noone in my dining party drinks wine - so pretty sure we will piss off the waiter! MileHiCrzr Posted November 1, 2010 #42 Share Posted November 1, 2010 Does the zipline cost extra? Going on Oasis in March. No extra charge for the zip line - if you don't have closed toes shoes they will loan you a pair.
kalliekae Posted November 2, 2010 #43 Share Posted November 2, 2010 Wow, I am surprised at all the comments about Chops. We are new to RCL and have booked Chops, but I think I will cancel it now. I can't stand bad service!!! Thanks to the op for your Oasis review. We are looking forward to our December cruise.
